Active and total microbial communities in forest soil are largely different and highly stratified during decomposition
- P. Baldrian, M. Kolařík, J. Voříšková
- Environmental ScienceThe ISME Journal
- 1 February 2012
It is shown that low-abundance species make an important contribution to decomposition processes in soils, and cellulose decomposition is mediated by highly diverse fungal populations largely distinct between soil horizons.
Cellular and molecular effects of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids on adipose tissue biology and metabolism.
- P. Flachs, M. Rossmeisl, M. Bryhn, J. Kopecký
- BiologyClinical science
- 2009
Both n-3 LC-PUFAs and TZDs are found to ameliorate a low-grade inflammation of adipose tissue associated with obesity and induce changes in the pattern of secreted adipokines, resulting in improved systemic insulin sensitivity.
Omega-3 PUFA of marine origin limit diet-induced obesity in mice by reducing cellularity of adipose tissue
- J. Růžičková, M. Rossmeisl, J. Kopecký
- Medicine, BiologyLipids
- 1 December 2004
It is suggested that EPA/DHA could reduce accumulation of body fat by limiting both hypertrophy and hyperplasia of fat cells by increasing dietary intake of EPA/ DHA, which may be beneficial regardless of the ALA intake.
Expression of the mitochondrial uncoupling protein gene from the aP2 gene promoter prevents genetic obesity.
- J. Kopecký, G. Clarke, S. Enerbäck, B. Spiegelman, L. Kozak
- BiologyJournal of Clinical Investigation
- 1 December 1995
The results suggest that UCP synthesized from the aP2 gene promoter is thermogenically active and capable of reducing fat stores.
Metabolic Effects of n-3 PUFA as Phospholipids Are Superior to Triglycerides in Mice Fed a High-Fat Diet: Possible Role of Endocannabinoids
- M. Rossmeisl, Z. Macek Jílková, J. Kopecký
- Biology, MedicinePLoS ONE
- 11 June 2012
Compared with triglycerides, dietary DHA/EPA administered as phospholipids are superior in preserving a healthy metabolic profile under obesogenic conditions, possibly reflecting better bioavalability and improved modulation of the endocannabinoid system activity in WAT.
An upstream enhancer regulating brown-fat-specific expression of the mitochondrial uncoupling protein gene
- U. C. Kozak, J. Kopecký, J. Teisinger, S. Enerbäck, B. Boyer, L. Kozak
- BiologyMolecular and Cellular Biology
- 1 January 1994
Previous studies on the regulation of a Ucp minigene in transgenic mice demonstrated that the sequences necessary for brown-fat-specific expression and inducibility by norepinephrine were located in…
The influence of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and very low calorie diet during a short-term weight reducing regimen on weight loss and serum fatty acid composition in severely obese women.
- M. Kunesova, R. Braunerová, S. Svacina
- BiologyPhysiological Research
- 2006
Long chain n-3 PUFA enhance weight loss in obese females treated by VLCD, and seems to be the active component.
Polyunsaturated fatty acids of marine origin upregulate mitochondrial biogenesis and induce β-oxidation in white fat
- P. Flachs, O. Horakova, J. Kopecký
- BiologyDiabetologia
- 5 October 2005
The anti-adipogenic effect of EPA/DHA may involve a metabolic switch in adipocytes that includes enhancement of β-oxidation and upregulation of mitochondrial biogenesis.
Sulfo-N-succinimidyl Oleate (SSO) Inhibits Fatty Acid Uptake and Signaling for Intracellular Calcium via Binding CD36 Lysine 164
- O. Kuda, T. Pietka, N. Abumrad
- Biology, ChemistryJournal of Biological Chemistry
- 18 April 2013
SSO accesses Lys-164 in the FA-binding site on CD36, and initial modeling of this site is presented, suggesting competition between FA and oxLDL for access to the CD36 binding pocket.
Comparison of rhizobacterial community composition in soil suppressive or conducive to tobacco black root rot disease
- M. Kyselková, J. Kopecký, Y. Moënne‐Loccoz
- BiologyThe ISME Journal
- 25 June 2009
Novelacterial taxa that could serve as indicators of disease suppressiveness in soil-quality assessments are identified and the range of bacterial taxa hypothesized to participate in black root rot suppression is extended.
