Genetic diversity and population structure of the endangered marsupial Sarcophilus harrisii (Tasmanian devil)
- W. Miller, V. Hayes, S. Schuster
- BiologyProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences
- 27 June 2011
Analysis of 14 complete mitochondrial genomes from current and museum specimens, as well as mitochondrial and nuclear SNP markers in 175 animals, suggests that the observed low genetic diversity in today's population preceded the Devil Facial Tumor Disease disease outbreak by at least 100 y.
Expression of a functional human complement inhibitor in a transgenic pig as a model for the prevention of xenogeneic hyperacute organ rejection.
- W. Fodor, B. Williams, S. Squinto
- Biology, MedicineProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences…
- 8 November 1994
A strategy for developing a pig-to-primate xenogeneic transplantation model to test whether the expression of a human complement inhibitor in transgenic pigs could render Xenogeneic organs resistant to hyperacute rejection is demonstrated.
Laboratory evaluation of biotic and abiotic factors that may influence larvicidal activity of Bacillus thuringiensis serovar. israelensis against two Florida mosquito species.
- J. K. Nayar, J. Knight, A. Ali, D. Carlson, P. D. O'Bryan
- BiologyJournal of the American Mosquito Control…
- 1 March 1999
A technical powder of Bacillus thuringiensis serovar, an aqueous suspension, and a granular formulation were tested in the laboratory under different biotic and abiotic, conditions for efficacy against larvae of saltwater (Aedes taeniorhynchus) and freshwater mosquitoes.
Transgenic pigs produce functional human factor VIII in milk
- R. Paleyanda, W. Velander, H. Luboń
- BiologyNature Biotechnology
- 1 October 1997
This work has sought to generate a new source of rFVIII by targeting expression of the human FVIII cDNA to the mammary gland of transgenic pigs using the regulatory sequences of the mouse whey acidic protein gene.
Effects of P.G. 600 on the onset of estrus and ovulation rate in gilts treated with Regu-mate.
- M. Estienne, A. Harper, B. Horsley, C. E. Estienne, J. Knight
- Chemistry, MedicineJournal of Animal Science
- 1 November 2001
Three experiments assessed the onset of estrus and ovulation rate in gilts treated with gonadotropins after the withdrawal of an orally active progestin and the beneficial effect of Regu-mate pretreatment on the response to P.G. 600 in prepubertal gilts.
Experimental vertical transmission of Saint Louis encephalitis virus by Florida mosquitoes.
- J. K. Nayar, L. Rosen, J. Knight
- BiologyAmerican Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene
- 1 November 1986
This mosquito species warrants further investigation as a possible overwintering host for the virus in that locality and relatively high rates of vertical transmission of SLE virus observed in the present experiments.
Mechanisms of oxidative stress in porcine oocytes and the role of anti-oxidants.
- B. Whitaker, J. Knight
- BiologyReproduction, Fertility and Development
- 31 July 2008
The results indicate that the mechanisms of alleviating oxidative stress in porcine oocytes are very complex and supplementing maturing oocytes with anti-oxidants may enhance enzyme activities and eliminate free radicals.
Glucocorticoid concentrations, corticosteroid binding protein characteristics and reproduction performance of sows and gilts subjected to applied stress during mid-gestation.
- H. Kattesh, E. Kornegay, J. Knight, F. Gwazdauskas, H. R. Thomas, D. Notter
- Biology, MedicineJournal of Animal Science
- 1 May 1980
Overall mean glucocorticoid concentrations were lower than those of control animals, CBG binding capacities (CBC) were lower in treated sows and gilts bled on days 12 and 9 +/- 1 after initiation of stress, respectively and overall mean CBC and affinity of cortisol to bind to the CBG molecule were lowered in stressed gilts.
