Adding Multimedia to the Semantic Web: Building an MPEG-7 ontology
TLDR
The trials and tribulations of building such an ontology represented in RDF Schema are described and it is demonstrated how this ontology can be exploited and reused by other communities on the semantic web to enable the inclusion and exchange of multimedia content through a common understanding of the associated MPEG-7 multimedia content descriptions.
The ABC Ontology and Model
TLDR
This paper describes the latest version of the ABC metadata model, a metadata model with more logically grounded time and entity semantics that is able to build a metadata repository of RDF descriptions and a search interface which is capable of more sophisticated queries than less-expressive, object-centric metadata models will allow.
The role of information technologies in indigenous knowledge management
More and more communities and organisations around the world are realising the value and significance of Indigenous knowledge and the importance of preserving it for future generations. Indigenous
Enhancing the semantic interoperability of multimedia through a core ontology
  • J. Hunter
  • Computer Science
IEEE Trans. Circuits Syst. Video Technol.
  • 2003
TLDR
The ABC model's ability to mediate and integrate between multimedia metadata vocabularies is evaluated by illustrating how it can provide the foundation to facilitate semantic interoperability between MPEG-7, MPEG-21 and other domain-specific metadata vocABularies.
Open Annotation Data Model
The Open Annotation Core Data Model specifies an interoperable framework for creating associations between related resources, annotations, using a methodology that conforms to the Architecture of the
An overview of the MPEG-7 description definition language (DDL)
  • J. Hunter
  • Computer Science
IEEE Trans. Circuits Syst. Video Technol.
  • 1 June 2001
TLDR
The background to this decision to choose the W3C's XML Schema language, with the addition of certain MPEG-7-specific extensions, is described and an overview of the core XMLSchema features used within MPEG-6 and the extensions made in order to satisfy the MPEG- 7 DDL requirements is provided.
Enhancing the Quality and Trust of Citizen Science Data
  • A. Alabri, J. Hunter
  • Computer Science
IEEE Sixth International Conference on e-Science
  • 7 December 2010
TLDR
It is described how trust models provide a simple and effective mechanism for measuring the reliability of community-generated data and filtering services that remove untrustworthy data, and enable confident re-use of the data.
MatSeek: An Ontology-Based Federated Search Interface for Materials Scientists
By providing an integrated Web interface to the critical materials science databases and analytical tools, MatSeek represents a significant advance toward a full-fledged materials-informatics
Combining the CIDOC CRM and MPEG-7 to Describe Multimedia in Museums.
TLDR
The ABC ontology is described and how it has been used to facilitate the merging of the MPEG-7 and CIDOC-CRM models into a single ontology for describing and managing multimedia in museums, an extensible model/standard for describing museum multimedia content.
