HERSCHEL SURVEY OF GALACTIC OH+, H2O+, AND H3O+: PROBING THE MOLECULAR HYDROGEN FRACTION AND COSMIC-RAY IONIZATION RATE
- N. Indriolo, D. Neufeld, F. Wyrowski
- Physics
- 2 December 2014
In diffuse interstellar clouds the chemistry that leads to the formation of the oxygen-bearing ions OH+, H2O+, and H3O+ begins with the ionization of atomic hydrogen by cosmic rays, and continues…
A line confusion limited millimeter survey of Orion KL
- B. Tercero, J. Cernicharo, J. Pardo, J. Goicoechea
- Physics
- 15 April 2010
Aims. We present a study of the silicon-bearing species detected in a line-confusion limited survey towards Orion KL performed with the IRAM 30-m telescope. The analysis of the line survey is…
The ionization fraction gradient across the Horsehead edge: an archetype for molecular clouds
- J. Goicoechea, J. Pety, Luth
- Physics
- 16 February 2009
Context. The ionization fraction (i.e., the electron abundance) plays a key role in the chemistry and dynamics of molecular clouds. Aims. We study the H 13 CO + ,D CO + and HOC + line emission…
The anatomy of the Orion B Giant Molecular Cloud: A local template for studies of nearby galaxies
- J. Pety, V. Guzm'an, A. Sievers
- Physics
- 12 November 2016
We aim to develop the Orion B Giant Molecular Cloud (GMC) as a local template for interpreting extra-galactic molecular line observations. We use the wide-band receiver at the IRAM-30m to spatially…
THE CHEMISTRY OF INTERSTELLAR OH+, H2O+, AND H3O+: INFERRING THE COSMIC-RAY IONIZATION RATES FROM OBSERVATIONS OF MOLECULAR IONS
- D. Hollenbach, M. Kaufman, D. Neufeld, M. Wolfire, J. Goicoechea
- Physics
- 29 May 2012
We model the production of OH+, H2O+, and H3O+ in interstellar clouds, using a steady-state photodissociation region code that treats the freezeout of gas species, grain surface chemistry, and…
Low sulfur depletion in the Horsehead PDR
- J. Goicoechea, J. Pety, S. Baek
- Environmental Science, Physics
- 30 May 2006
Aims.We present 3.65'' × 3.34'' angular-resolution IRAM Plateau de Bure Interferometer (PdBI) observations of the CS J = 2-1 line toward the Horsehead Photodissociation Region (PDR), complemented…
HERSCHEL MEASUREMENTS OF MOLECULAR OXYGEN IN ORION
- P. Goldsmith, R. Liseau, U. Yıldız
- Physics
- 1 August 2011
We report observations of three rotational transitions of molecular oxygen (O2) in emission from the H2 Peak 1 position of vibrationally excited molecular hydrogen in Orion. We observed the 487 GHz,…
VELOCITY-RESOLVED [C ii] EMISSION AND [C ii]/FIR MAPPING ALONG ORION WITH HERSCHEL
- J. Goicoechea, D. Teyssier, J. Stutzki
- PhysicsAstrophysical Journal
- 16 August 2015
It is concluded that the [C ii] emitting column relative to the total dust column along each line of sight is responsible for the observed L[C ii?]/LFIR variations through the cloud.
Compression and ablation of the photo-irradiated molecular cloud the Orion Bar
- J. Goicoechea, J. Pety, P. Pilleri
- PhysicsNature
- 1 July 2016
One-arcsecond-resolution millimetre-wave images of the Orion Bar suggest that the cloud edge has been compressed by a high-pressure wave that is moving into the molecular cloud, demonstrating that dynamical and non-equilibrium effects are important for the cloud evolution.
The chemistry and spatial distribution of small hydrocarbons in UV-irradiated molecular clouds: the Orion Bar PDR
- S. Cuadrado, J. Goicoechea, P. Pilleri, J. Cernicharo, A. Fuente, C. Joblin
- Environmental Science
