A randomized trial of normothermic preservation in liver transplantation
- D. Nasralla, C. Coussios, For Europe
- MedicineNature
- 18 April 2018
Normothermic machine perfusion of the liver improved early graft function, demonstrated by reduced peak serum aspartate transaminase levels and early allograft dysfunction rates, and improved organ utilization and preservation times, although no differences were seen in graft or patient survival.
Liver Transplant Using Donors After Unexpected Cardiac Death: Novel Preservation Protocol and Acceptance Criteria
- C. Fondevila, A. Hessheimer, J. García‐Valdecasas
- Medicine, EngineeringAmerican Journal of Transplantation
- 1 July 2007
Though considered marginal, unexpected DCD can represent an important source of viable livers for transplant if strict acceptance criteria are employed and they are maintained with NECMO prior to recovery.
Applicability and Results of Maastricht Type 2 Donation After Cardiac Death Liver Transplantation
- C. Fondevila, A. Hessheimer, J. García‐Valdecasas
- MedicineAmerican Journal of Transplantation
- 1 January 2012
The applicability of type 2 DCD liver transplant was <10%; however, with better preservation technology and expanded transplant criteria, this figure may be able to improve this figure significantly.
Antiviral therapy of patients with decompensated cirrhosis to prevent recurrence of hepatitis C after liver transplantation.

Hepatitis C recurrence is more severe after living donor compared to cadaveric liver transplantation
- M. García-Retortillo, X. Forns, A. Rimola
- MedicineHepatology
- 1 September 2004
The results were based on a single‐center experience and should be considered in the decision‐making process of transplant programs, since severe HCV recurrence may ultimately compromise graft and patient survival.
