Novel hybrid invasive genotypes of Asian Reynoutria taxa may be produced by rare sexual reproduction, fixed by clonal growth, and present a previously unknown threat to native vegetation.

The genus Reynoutria is represented by four taxa in the Czech Republic – R. japonica and compacta, R. sachalinensis and R. × bohemica, which is genetically the most diverse taxon in the study area.

Morphological examination and genetic analyses demonstrated that all available ex situ germplasm collections of T. koksaghyz belonged to a single triploid apomictic clone that was misidentified as T. brevicorniculatum, a species commonly co-occurring with wild populations of the Russian dandelion.
