We describe a 79 year old lady who presented with a cytologically confirmed anaplastic carcinoma of the thyroid gland eleven years after administration of radio-iodine for thyrotoxicosis. This is, we believe, the first such occurrence documented in the Irish literature.
Upper midline laparotomy in the presence of pulmonary failure is often complicated by a prolonged period of mechanical ventilation postoperatively. We report the successfull performance of laparoscopic fundoplication, without ventilatory suport, in a woman with end stage pulmonary disease and resting hypercarbia, one month prior to lung transplantation.
An initial series of 500 eyes with cataract was managed with phacoemulsification and posterior chamber lens implantation, with operative capsulotomy.
