The PP10 stalagmite from Poleva Cave provides a Late Pleistocene and Holocene isotopic record characteristic for the SW of Romania, a sub-Mediterranean climatic region. The speleothem was dated by eight TIMS and one alpha U-series dates which showed that it was precipitated between ∼75 ka and ∼2 ka with at least two hiatuses. The basal sector of the… (More)
1998). The T45 cave, by 1 July 2004, had been partially filled by lava flows originating from T56B and possibly other sources. The floor of the cave was about one meter below the crater floor. The cave contained stalactites up to 3 m long. The summit vent of T45 formed a skylight into the cave. The cave’s floor, composed of recent pahoehoe lava, was… (More)

—An unusually well preserved skull, mandible, and indisputably associated post-cranial elements of new sloth, Acratocnus (Miocnus), were recovered from a cave in Jaragua National Park, Dominican Republic. The animal died lying in a rimstone pool and was rapidly coated with a thin calcite patina. We have documented a late Wisconsinan age for this specimen by… (More)

A middle Pleistocene age and biogeography for the extinct rodent Megalomys curazensis from Curacao, Netherlands Antilles.
We used Sr/Ca and stable isotope data from well dated and preserved corals from the northeastern Caribbean to determine the seasonal environmental conditions for four continuous years during the Eemian, the last time the Earth was in a prolonged warm phase. We determined that the seasonal range in SST during the Eemian was 25 –30 C. This is 1–2 larger… (More)
Bats and bell holes: The microclimatic impact of bat roosting, using a case study from Runaway a b s t r a c t a r t i c l e i n f o The microclimatic effect of bats roosting in bell holes (blind vertical cylindrical cavities in cave roofs) in Runaway Bay Caves, Jamaica, was measured and the potential impact of their metabolism on dissolution modelled. Rock… (More)

These are the third example of photokarren ever studied in the world, the other two being from Borneo and Ireland. They are the only photokarren… (More)
This paper explores the potential of using the Moran’s I statistic to detect complementary bidding on public contracts. The test is applied to data concerning the so-called Swedish asphalt cartel, which was discovered in 2001. Using information on submitted bids and procurement characteristics for both the cartel period (1995–2001) and the post-cartel… (More)
