The classification, natural history, and treatment of hemangiomas, arteriovenous fistulas, lymphangiomas, and port-wine stains are in many respects as puzzling now as they were fifty years ago. A review of the literature assesses the progress made and addresses the questions yet to be answered.
The use of high-dose methotrexate (MTX) therapy in cancer chemotherapy has intensified the need to monitor the purity of this drug. A high-pressure liquid chromatographic method, which utilizes ion-pairing on a mu-Bondapak C18 column, has been developed for this purpose. This method provides an efficient and highly sensitive method for detecting impurities… (More)
The first case of a documented metastatic cervical teratoma of infancy is presented with a review of diagnostic considerations. Early biopsy of suspicious neonatal head and neck masses is recommended. Complete resection of the teratoma should be considered as soon as clinically possible.
The traditional approach to breast cancer has been the surgical mastectomy. The cosmetic deformity resulting from this procedure has led to the development of our current methods of breast reconstruction. The inherent attraction of lumpectomy and radiotherapy has been its equation with improved cosmesis. This procedure may be an effective alternative to… (More)
Plasma levels of methotrexate, dichloromethotrexate, and their 7-hydroxy metabolites can be determined quickly and accurately by direct analysis in a high pressure liquid chromatographic system. This system utilizes a precolumn of CO:Pell ODS resin to protect the analytical mu-Bondapak C18 column. The precolumn also provides a bed for extraction of drugs… (More)
A simple technique, not previously described, has been successful in achieving increased motion of contracted metacarpophalangeal and proximal interphalangeal joints of the hand. The procedure involves percutaneous sectioning of collateral ligaments followed by joint manipulation. Experience with 65 stiff joints treated by this minimally invasive technique… (More)
A high-pressure liquid chromatographic method is presented for determining lidocaine and its dealkylated metabolites, monoethylglycinexylidide and glycinexylidide, in plasma. This method uses 20-microliter samples injected directly through a pre-column onto a C18 analytical column. It is fast, sensitive and linear over a concentration range of 1--10… (More)
The understanding of and care for burn trauma have become increasingly sophisticated. A review of important clinical and laboratory conditions over the past five years highlights current thought and future trends in burn management.
