We make the first calculation in lattice QCD of two-photon decays of mesons. Working in the charmonium sector, using the Lehmann-Symanzik-Zimmermann reduction to relate a photon to a sum of hadronic vector eigenstates, we compute form factors in both the spacelike and timelike domains for the transitions eta c --> gamma*gamma* and chi(c0) --> gamma*gamma*.(More)
A new quark-field smearing algorithm is defined which enables efficient calculations of a broad range of hadron correlation functions. The technique applies a low-rank operator to define smooth fields that are to be used in hadron creation operators. The resulting space of smooth fields is small enough that all elements of the reduced quark propagator can(More)

The " forbidden " decays of Hybrid mesons to πρ can be large. Abstract The observation of π1(1600) → πρ is shown in the flux-tube model to be compatible with this state being a hybrid meson with branching ratio to this channel ∼ 10 − 25%. This forces the hybrid π(∼ 1800) to have a width to πρ ∼ 100-300 MeV, which implies a novel interpretation of data. The(More)
Using a first-principles calculation within quantum chromodynamics, we are able to determine a pattern of strangeness=1 resonances that appear as complex singularities within coupled πK-ηK scattering amplitudes. We make use of numerical computation in the lattice discretized approach to the quantum field theory with light quark masses corresponding to(More)
We calculate rates for hybrid meson production by electromagnetic and weak interactions in the flux-tube model. Applications include photo and electroproduction at Jefferson Laboratory and HERA, and the production of light strange and charmed hybrids in the weak decays of heavy flavours. Photoproduction of some light hybrids is predicted to be prominent in(More)
We present for the first time a determination of the energy dependence of the isoscalar ππ elastic scattering phase shift within a first-principles numerical lattice approach to QCD. Hadronic correlation functions are computed including all required quark propagation diagrams, and from these the discrete spectrum of states in the finite volume defined by(More)
We make the first calculation of the electroweak couplings of hybrid mesons to conventional mesons appropriate to photoproduction and to the decays of B or D mesons. E1 amplitudes are found to be large and may contribute in charge exchange gammap-->nH(+) allowing production of (among others) the charged 1(-+) exotic hybrid off a(2) exchange. Axial hybrid(More)
