Delirium occurs in 23% of sepsis patients, in which pro-inflammatory cytokines and nitric oxide are suggested to be involved. However, in animal experiments, even a subseptic dose of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) injection induces both pro-inflammatory cytokines and inducible nitric oxide synthase in the brain, suggesting that the brain oxidative reaction can be… (More)
Iron is known to be involved in neuronal diseases such as neurodegenerative diseases, brain ischemia and epilepsy. However, it is unclear if a high level of peripheral iron induces these pathological conditions. Since ferric nitrilotriacetate (Fe-NTA), a low molecule iron chelate, causes kidney carcinoma and diabetes in animals due to its strong and unique… (More)
2'-Iododiazepam (2'-IDZ) is the diazepam analogue iodinated at the 2'-position of C-5 phenyl ring which was synthesized and evaluated as a potential radiopharmaceutical for investigating brain benzodiazepine receptors by SPECT. The 125I-2'-iododiazepam was synthesized by halogen exchange reaction and purified by HPLC. In vitro competitive binding studies… (More)
26,26,26,27,27,27-Hexafluo-1,25(OH)2 vitamin D3, the hexafluorinated analog of 1,25(OH)2 vitamin D3, has been reported to be several times more potent than the parent compound regarding some vitamin D actions. The reason for enhanced biologic activity in the kidneys and small intestine appears to be related to F6-1,25(OH)2 vitamin D3 metabolism to ST-232,… (More)
In this study, we tested changes of internal standard genes of the brain after electrical tail shock in rats. The level of 28S rRNA of the amygdala was increased significantly after the stress. There was no significant change in GAPDH, beta-actin, 36B4 mRNA and 28S rRNA at the subfornical organ and the hippocampus.
Acceleration of heart rate simultaneously with excitatory movements was observed during anesthesia with propofol in four patients. Anesthesia was induced with propofol 2.5 mg.kg-1 i.v. and maintained with propofol 10 mg.kg-1.hr-1 i.v. About ten minutes after the induction, the patients showed jerking movements such as pronation or flexion of their arms,… (More)
[125I]2'-Iododiazepam (IDZ) was prepared and its application in a benzodiazepine receptor binding assay was studied. [125I]2'-IDZ binds to the rat cortical membrane with a high affinity (Kd, 0.66 nM). Various benzodiazepines showed competition with [125I]2'-IDZ for the binding sites in the rat cortical membrane, and the specificity of its binding correlated… (More)
In vivo dopamine receptor binding of the newly synthesized ligand, 125I-2'-iodospiperone (125I-2'-ISP), was studied in mouse brain. The highest accumulation was found in the striatum. Analysis of the striatal homogenate showed the 125I-2'-ISP to be metabolically stable. Furthermore, this striatal binding was saturable and displaced only by dopaminergic… (More)
