The most pronounced activity of this compound was elicited in the mitochondria, where it was three times greater than that of alpha-tocopherol, a typical intracellular antioxidant, which suggests that the free radical scavenging or antioxidant activity of flunarizine may play a role in its brain protective action.

14C-AAP accumulates in the myocardium of the target organ for a short time immediately after injection (i.v.), corresponding to the period of the QTc interval prolongation by AAP, and does not accumulate for long in any organ except for the kidney, and is largely excreted in urine within 60 min.
