Studies on the possible mechanisms of antidiabetic activity of extract of aerial parts of Phyllanthus niruri
- C. Okoli, I. Obidike, A. Ezike, P. Akah, O. A. Salawu
- MedicinePharmaceutical biology
- 16 February 2011
Findings suggest that aerial parts of P. niruri may owe their blood glucose lowering properties to inhibition of glucose absorption and enhancement of glucose storage.
Nanotechnology in Drug Delivery
Nanoscience has been variously defined at different fora, books, journals and the web, yet one thing is common; it involves the study of the control of matter on an atomic and molecular scale. This…
Acute and sub-acute toxicological evaluation of the methanolic stem bark extract of Crossopteryx febrifuga in rats
- O. A. Salawu, B. Chindo, A. Y. Tijani, I. Obidike, T. A. Salawu, A. J. Akingbasote
- Medicine, Biology
- 31 December 2009
The results suggest that oral administration of C. Febrifuga may not produce severe toxic effects at doses lower than 500mg extract/kg body weight, and Histological findings indicated possible toxicity in the Liver, Lungs, Kidney, Testes and Uterus at 1000 mg/kg.
Microencapsulation enhances the anti-ulcerogenic properties of Entada africana leaf extract.
Co-administeration of Ethanolic Leaf Extract of Moringa oleifera and Metformin Improves Glucose, Lipid and Protein Profiles of Diabetic Wistar rats
It is indicated that MOE/Metformin co-administration produced additive anti-hyperglycaemic and hypolipidaemic effects compared to either MOE or Metformin alone and may be useful in the therapeutic management of diabetes mellitus that is associated with dyslipidaemia.
A novel xyloglucan gum from seeds of Afzelia africana Se. Pers.: some functional and physicochemical properties.
Afzelia gum (AzG) is a nonstarch polysaccharide extracted from the seeds of Afzelia africana Se. Pers. Some physicochemical and thermal properties of the polysaccharide have been determined and…
Evaluation of anti-diarrhoeal properties of methanolic Root extract of Piliostigma reticulatum in rats
The results obtained in this study revealed that the extract has remarkable anti-diarrhoeal effect, which may be due to the presence of the tannins, alkaloids and saponins constituents and can thus be used in the treatment of non-specific diarrhoea.
Anti-ulcerogenic properties of methanolic root extract of Piliostigma reticulatum (DC) Hoechst (Syn. Bauhinia reticulate DC) -Leguminosae in rats
Findings indicate the cytoprotective effects of the extract against ulceration and thus justify the folkloric uses of the plant in the symptomatic management of peptic ulcer.
The Anti-Inflammatory and Antinociceptive Properties of the Chloroform Fraction From Phyllanthus niruri Plant Is Mediated via the Peripheral Nervous System
- I. Obidike, O. Salawu, Mary Ndukuba, C. Okoli, U. Osunkwo
- BiologyJournal of dietary supplements
- 1 November 2010
It is concluded that PNF1 possesses antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and antinociceptive effects that are peripherally mediated and justifies its use in traditional medicine and its potential as a candidate for further development.
Natural Antidiabetic Compound for the Therapeutic Management of Diabetes Mellitus and Its Drug Delivery System
