Evaluation of antioxidant activities and phenolic content of Berberis vulgaris L. and Berberis croatica Horvat.
With the exception of the beta-carotene-linoleic acid test, antioxidant activity correlated well with the content of main plant antioxidants, phenols and flavonols, which suggests an important role of these compounds in overall antioxidant activity of investigated plant organs. Expand
Quantitative analysis of the flavonoids in raw propolis from northern Croatia.
Spectrometric analyses of flavonoids in twenty propolis samples, collected from ten different geographic localities in northern Croatia using two complementary methods, are reported, showing the high variability of flavanone concentration will affect the biological activity of propolis preparations. Contaminants of Medicinal Herbs and Herbal Products
To prevent and screen for contamination and ensure safety and conformity to quality standards, medicinal herbs and herbal products should be included in appropriate regulatory framework. Expand
Antifungal activity of thyme (Thymus vulgaris L.) essential oil and thymol against moulds from damp dwellings
To characterize antifungal activities of essential oil of thyme and pure thymol, as comparative substance, on different mould species isolated from damp dwellings. Expand
Galangin expresses bactericidal activity against multiple-resistant bacteria: MRSA, Enterococcus spp. and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Antimicrobial-guided separation of flavonoid aglycones (bioassay in situ on thin-layer chromatogram) showed that galangin (3,5,7-trihydroxyflavone) is one compound in EEP with bactericidal activity. Expand
Antifungal activity of fluid extract and essential oil from anise fruits (Pimpinella anisum L., Apiaceae).
Antifungal activities of fluid extract and essential oil obtained from anise fruits Pimpinella anisum L. (Apiaceae) were tested in vitro on clinical isolates of seven species of yeasts and fourExpand
Radioprotective effects of propolis and quercetin in gamma-irradiated mice evaluated by the alkaline comet assay.
Positive results obtained on gamma-irradiated mice given EEP and quercetin, complementary with earlier observations on survival of irradiated mice, indicate that these compounds could be considered effective non-toxic radioprotectors. Expand
Co-occurrence of Aflatoxins, Ochratoxin A, Fumonisins, and Zearalenone in Cereals and Feed, Determined by Competitive Direct Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay and Thin-Layer Chromatography
Prolonged co-exposure to AFs, OTA, FBs, and ZEA might increase the risk of various chronic diseases. Expand
Chemotaxonomic and Micromorphological Traits of Satureja montana L. and S. subspicata Vis. (Lamiaceae)
The main constituents of the essential oil were carvacrol and thymol in S. montana and S. subspicata, both of which possess considerably higher quantities of Ca and Mg, and moderate concentrations of K and Na, while Hg and As levels were below the limit of quantification. Expand
Antimicrobial activity of juniper berry essential oil (Juniperus communis L., Cupressaceae).
Juniper essential oil showed similar bactericidal activities against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial species, as well as a strong fungicidal activity against yeasts, yeast-like fungi and dermatophytes, with MIC values below 10% (V/V). Expand
