We report a case of adenocarcinoma developing in remnant rectal mucosa below a hand-sewn ileal pouch–anal anastomosis (IPAA) after restorative proctocolectomy for ulcerative colitis (UC). To our knowledge, this is the first such case to be reported from Japan. A 60-year-old man with a 13-year history of UC underwent proctocolectomy with a hand-sewn IPAA and(More)
An 80-year-old woman presented to our outpatient center with abdominal pain and blood-stained stools. She underwent a colonoscopy, which showed a 4-cm type II tumor in the rectum. About 2 h after the colonoscopy, mild facial edema and subcutaneous emphysema developed around her neck. A chest X-ray showed pneumopericardium, pneumomediastinum, and(More)
Serum microRNAs (miRNAs) have been shown to have potential for cancer diagnosis. The main objective of the present study was to identify a novel serum miRNA biomarker from patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). Microarray analysis of miRNA expression was performed using paired pre-operative and post-operative serum from 10 CRC patients. Expression of two(More)

The subjects of this study were 320 patients with an American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) grade I or II physical status. Patients underwent elective open or laparoscopic colonic(More)
Recently, we reported that intraportal (IP) injection of donor spleen cells (SPCs) prevented liver allograft rejection. Moreover, we developed a new method using polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-mediated restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis, and demonstrated micro-chimerism (MC) at the DNA level in the spleen 14 days after IP injection.(More)
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE Oral tegafur/uracil and leucovorin (UFT/LV) therapy is effective and safe for elderly patients with advanced or metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC). However, there are few studies on the combination of bevacizumab with UFT/LV. This clinical study evaluated the efficacy and safety of UFT/LV plus bevacizumab as a first-line therapy for(More)
Esohophageal stents are often used in treating malignant stricture. But, when stents are placed across the esophagogastric junction, they may lead to esophagogastric reflux. We report a case of successfully treated esophagogastric strictures using the new stent with anti-reflux mechanism (long cover type Niti-S™ esophageal stent). A 78-year-old man(More)
We reported three cases of patient with triple negative skin metastasis after mastectomy of breast cancer. All three cases had received radiotherapy for skin metastasis. Radiation therapy was effective for recurrent sites, and could improve patient's QOL. After radiotherapy, 2 patients died due to a distant metastasis. Case 1 was resistant to chemotherapy.(More)
We report two cases of bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia (BOOP) induced radiotherapy after surgery of breast cancer. One of the patients was a 58-year-old woman. She underwent a conserving surgery for bilateral breast cancers, and received radiation therapy to the remaining part of bilateral breasts. Two months after the termination of(More)
We previously reported in the SENRI trial on the usefulness of aprepitant for the prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) in colorectal cancer patients receiving an oxaliplatin-based regimen which is classified as moderately emetogenic cancer chemotherapy. In the present subgroup analysis of the SENRI trial, we assessed the risk(More)
