Human skin is innervated with different tactile afferents, which are found at varying densities over the body. We investigate how the relationships between tactile pleasantness, sensitivity and discrimination differ across the skin. Tactile pleasantness was assessed by stroking a soft brush over the skin, using five velocities (0.3, 1, 3, 10, 30 cm s(-1)),(More)
In a randomized study the influence of anti-arrhythmic drugs on left ventricular myocardial function was tested. Propafenon, mexiletine, tocainide, disopyramide or placebo were given over seven days on top of basic treatment with digitalis, diuretics and nitrates. Propafenon, mexiletine, tocainide and disopyramide had negative inotropic effects of 16, 17,(More)
10 healthy volunteers were randomized in two groups and treated with mianserin and amitriptyline for 6 days. Heart rate, arterial blood pressure, and blood levels of the drugs were measured daily. ECG and left-ventricular echocardiogram as a parameter of contractility were registered before as well as after 3 and 6 days of treatment with both drugs. The(More)
Computer assisted analysis is useful for measurements in left ventricular echocardiograms. After manual input in the computer with the aid of an electronic pen, dimensions and contractility are determined by our selfmade programs. The left-ventricular function analysis (on the basis of the circumferential fibre shortening rate) demonstrated for tricyclic(More)
In 12 patients with coronary artery disease 10 cm3 TTS-Nitroderm with 2 X 20 mg Nifedipine were compared. Both substances lowered the number of anginal attacks and the intake of nitroglycerin capsules. Nifedipine pronounced the decrease of afterload as demonstrated by the pressure-rate product. TTS-Nitroglycerin decreased preload and showed a good efficacy.(More)
The rare case of pericardial effusion with starting tamponade in post-myocardial infarction syndrome (Dressler's Syndrome) is described. Diagnosis and comment: The consequential steroid therapy improves the cardial situation dramatically. There is no echocardiographic differential diagnostic criteria, but in the case of the symptoms of Dressler's Syndrome(More)
Prenalterol, a new cardioselective beta 1-adrenoceptor agonist, was compared with the beta-stimulator dobutamine by computer-assisted echocardiography. Prenalterol decreased preload, increased heart rate and induced an increase in contractility for a longer time in comparison with dobutamine. The small influence on blood pressure and afterload indicates(More)
A 27-year-old woman sustained a massive pulmonary embolism (cause unknown) with circulatory arrest. She was intubated and ventilated while external cardiac massage was performed and urokinase was infused (1.5 X 10(6) U/h). These resuscitative measures were continued while she was transferred by helicopter to the nearest cardiothoracic surgical centre, 40 km(More)
