Characterization of a new Bacillus stearothermophilus isolate: a highly thermostable α-amylase-producing strain
- R. Wind, R. Buitelaar, G. Eggink, H. J. Huizing, L. Dijkhuizen
- BiologyApplied Microbiology and Biotechnology
- 1 April 1994
A novel strain of Bacillus stearothermophilus was isolated from samples of a potato-processing industry and found to produce a highly thermostable α-amylase, which was found to be a growth-associated enzyme.
Transformation of the cultivated mushroom,Agaricus bisporus, to hygromycin B resistance
- M. D. Rhee, P. Graça, H. J. Huizing, H. Mooibroek
- Biology, MedicineMolecular and General Genetics MGG
- 25 February 1996
Transformation of both a homo- and a heterokaryotic strain of Agaricus bisporus to hygromycin B resistance is described, finding that transformation efficiency was not enhanced by using this homologous promoter.
Optimization of the biotransformation of l-tyrosine into l-dihydroxyphenylalanine (DOPA) by alginate-entrapped cells of Mucuna pruriens
The optimization experiments resulted in the description of a biotransformation system which operates at a constant redox potential, and with this transformation system a transformation efficiency of 70% could be obtained.
Production of acetone, butanol and ethanol (ABE) from potato wastes: fermentation with integrated membrane extraction
- N. G. Grobben, G. Eggink, F. Petrus Cuperus, H. J. Huizing
- ChemistryApplied Microbiology and Biotechnology
- 1 July 1993
The technical possibilities of the microbial production of acetone, butanol and ethanol (ABE) from potato waste using in-line solvent recovery, are evaluated. Clostridium acetobutylicum DSM 1731…
Reproduction of the beet cyst nematode Heterodera schachtii Schm. on transformed root cultures of Beta vulgaris L.
- H. Paul, C. Zijlstra, J. E. Leeuwangh, F. Krens, H. J. Huizing
- Biology, MedicinePlant Cell Reports
- 1 October 1987
Transformed hairy root cultures of Beta vulgaris L., grown in petri-dishes, were inoculated with a suspension of surface-sterilized larvae of the beet cyst nematode Heterodera schachtii, indicating that fertilization had occurred and did not lose its pathogenicity after being cultured on transformed roots.
Inhibition of Potato (Solanum tuberosum) Sprout Growth by the Monoterpene S-Carvone: Reduction of 3-Hydroxy-3-Methylglutaryl Coenzyme A Reductase Activity without Effect on its mRNA Level
The effect of S-carvone on the activity of HMGR in potato sprouts is not regulated by transcriptional events, but by as yet unknown mechanisms.
Production of L-DOPA by cell suspension cultures of Mucuna pruriens
- H. Wichers, R. Wijnsma, J. Visser, T. Malingré, H. J. Huizing
- Chemistry, BiologyPlant Cell, Tissue and Organ Culture
- 1 March 1985
Observations demonstrate that for certain products of plant cell suspensions product synthesis can be manipulated by a proper selection of specified nutrients.
Transformation and regeneration in sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.) induced by ‘shooter’ mutants of Agrobacterium tumefaciens
Beta vulgaris plants were found to be susceptible to Agrobacterium tumefaciens strains carrying octopine Ti-plasmids after wounding of GA3 elongated stems or of hypocotyls, demonstrating the applicability of the Agrobacteria system for transfer of genetic information.
Progress in transformation of Agaricus bisporus
Occurrence of L-DOPA and dopamine in plants and cell cultures ofMucuna pruriens and effects of 2,4-d and NaCl on these compounds
- H. Wichers, J. Visser, H. J. Huizing, N. Pras
- BiologyPlant Cell, Tissue and Organ Culture
- 1 June 1993
Dopamine induction appears to be a specific metabolic effect of 2,4-d, whereas salt stress, as caused by the addition of NaCl, gives no induction of dopamine formation, whereas L-DOPA is released into the medium.
