Environmental Factors Influencing Local Distribution and Activity of the Salamander, Plethodon Cinereus
- H. Heatwole
- Environmental Science
- 1 July 1962
The present investigation of local distribution of P. cinereus was carried out in 2 habitat types during the summers of 1957 and 1958 to understand the factors affecting microdistribution of such a eurytopic species.
Comparative cardiac anatomy of the reptilia. IV. The coronary arterial circulation
- M. Mackinnon, H. Heatwole
- MedicineJournal of morphology
- 1 October 1981
It is suggested that the presence of a hitherto unrecognized intertruncal branch of the coronary artery has been responsible for much of the alleged intrafamilial variation reported in earlier literature.

Habitat Selection and Activity of the Wood Frog, Rana sylvatica Le Conte
- H. Heatwole
- Environmental Science
- 1 October 1961
It is found that the habitat selected by Rana sylvatica in the non-breeding season is one comibining a forest canopy and small ponds and more frogs are active at high temperatures and relative humidities than at lower ones.
GEOGRAPHIC VARIATION IN SEA KRAITS OF THE LATICAUDA COLUBRINA COMPLEX (SERPENTES: ELAPIDAE: HYDROPHIINAE: LATICAUDINI)
- H. Heatwole, S. Busack, H. Cogger
- Geography
- 1 September 2005
The results confirmed the distinctiveness of the three original species and suggested that widely peripheral populations were more similar morphologically to each other than to more central ones, and alternative hypotheses accounting for this are discussed.

Comparative cardiac anatomy of the reptilia. I. The chambers and septa of the varanid ventricle
- G. Webb, H. Heatwole, John de Bavay
- MedicineJournal of morphology
- 1 July 1971
Examination of the cardiac anatomy of lizards of the family Varanidae revealed that much of the previous literature contained basic errors both in description and interpretation. These are corrected…
Relationship of Escape Behavior and Camouflage in Anoline Lizards
- H. Heatwole
- Environmental Science
- 15 March 1968
The Cretaceous reptile Champsosaurus natator Parks is studied as a model for the osteology of Captorhinus aguti (Cope) (Reptilia:captorhinomorpha).
HERPETOGEOGRAPHY OF PUERTO RICO. IV. PALEOGEOGRAPHY, FAUNAL SIMILARITY AND ENDEMISM
- H. Heatwole, F. Mackenzie
- Environmental ScienceEvolution; international journal of organic…
- 1 September 1967
Late Pleistocene paleogeography of the Puerto Rican area is described and related to an analysis of the herpetofauna; implications of paleoGeography for dispersal and gene flow are also discussed.
Biotic and chemical characteristics of some soils from Wilkes Land, Antarctica
- H. Heatwole, P. Saenger, A. Spain, E. Kerry, John F. Donelan
- BiologyAntarctic Science
- 1 September 1989
Numbers of micro-organisms in soils from Wilkes Land varied widely and only a few sites, those with moist sandy or gravelly soils free of extensive moss or lichen cover, contained the single mite species recorded.
