We report a draft sequence for the genome of the domesticated silkworm (Bombyx mori), covering 90.9% of all known silkworm genes. Our estimated gene count is 18,510, which exceeds the 13,379 genes reported for Drosophila melanogaster. Comparative analyses to fruitfly, mosquito, spider, and butterfly reveal both similarities and differences in gene content.
Fundamental aspects of the application of fluorescence anisotropy to detect the hybridization of fluorescein-labeled DNA oligomers were explored. The oligomers included a binding site for the EcoRI restriction enzyme, which binds to double-stranded DNA and is used in this work to enhance the difference between the anisotropies of the single-stranded and(More)
AFLP technique was used to analyse the polymorphism between rice cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) line Jin2A and its maintainer Jin2B. A stable differential band was discovered, and sequence analysis showed that Jin2A contained a more tandem repeat of 6 base pairs (AGAAAA) than Jin2B. Further studies confirmed that the diversity came from cpDNA and occurred(More)
Linked by strings of diphenylhexatriene (DPH) molecules, beta- and gamma-cyclodextrins (CDs) can form nanotube aggregates that contain as many as approximately 20 betaCDs (20 nanometers long) or approximately 20 to 35 gammaCDs (20 to 35 nanometers long). Nanotube formation was indicated in solution, by fluorescence anisotropy and light scattering results,(More)
Chlorophyll (Chl) molecules are essential for harvesting light energy in photosynthesis. A rice high-chlorophyll mutant (Gc) with significantly increased Chl b was identified previously in Zhenshan 97B (Oryza sativa indica). However, the mechanism underlying this higher Chl b content and its effects on photosynthetic efficiency are still unclear. Immunoblot(More)
