In 174 cases of genitourinary tuberculosis diagnosed and treated in our clinic we evaluated, retrospectively, age and sex distributions, symptoms, physical and laboratory findings, primary focus, surgical and medical treatments. Flank pain and non-specific urinary complaints, e.g. dysuria, were the major symptoms. Although some authors prefer short-term(More)
OBJECTIVE To clarify the significance of microvessel density (MVD) in a retrospective investigation the relationship between the pattern of MVD (reflecting angiogenesis), and tumour stage, grade, size, and occurrence of microvessel invasion (MVI), metastasis, and cancer-specific survival (CSS) in patients who had surgery for renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Isolated extrarenal retroperitoneal and renal echinococcal cysts are rare manifestations of hydatid disease. We report 23 cases of renal and other retroperitoneal hydatid cysts diagnosed and treated in our clinic. Flank pain, abdominal mass and non-specific symptoms such as nausea and vomiting were the major symptoms. Indirect haemagglutination test was(More)
OBJECTIVE To assess the effect of antimuscarinic treatment with tolterodine combined with behavioural modification as a first-line treatment, before invasive investigation, in children with non-neurogenic voiding dysfunction but no obvious anatomical or neurogenic cause. PATIENTS AND METHODS The study comprised 44 children presenting with voiding(More)
OBJECTIVE To determine if use of cell proliferation, cell adhesion, level of angiogenesis-related factors and presence of microscopic vascular invasion (MVI) could better predict the biological behaviour of renal cell carcinoma (RCC), which has a widely variable clinical outcome despite the use of conventional prognostic factors (staging and grading). Erectile dysfunction is common in men with chronic renal failure. Previously nitrergic and endothelium-dependent relaxation responses have been shown to be reduced in chronic renal failure rabbits. We have therefore investigated the efficacy of phosphodiesterase inhibitors on the corpora cavernosa obtained from uremic rabbits. Uremia was induced with 5/6(More)
Introduction. Strontium salts are anti-irritants for chemically induced sensory irritation. Interstitial cystitis is a painful disease without definitive therapy. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of strontium in bladder with experimental interstitial cystitis model. Material and Methods. Rats' bladders in control group were instilled with(More)
BACKGROUND Dexmedetomidine, because it has both sedative and analgesic properties, may be suitable for conscious sedation during painful procedures. Extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL) is a minimal to mildly painful procedure that requires conscious sedation. We thus evaluated the utility of dexmedetomidine compared with propofol during an ESWL(More)
The urethra can be the site of various types of foreign bodies. A 61-year-old man having a giant urethral stone with two safety pins was evaluated according to the literature. To our knowledge, we report the first case of foreign bodies in urethra in which existing non-obstructive giant urethral stone with two safety pins.
