Malignant undifferentiated sarcomas were induced in 11 of 15 (73.3%) newborn Syrian hamsters by s.c. inoculation of a recombinant DNA (pBK/c-rasA) containing BK virus (BKV) early region gene and the activated human c-Harvey-ras(c-Ha-ras) oncogene derived from T24 bladder carcinoma. The two genes inoculated independently as well as a recombinant DNA of BKV… (More)
Brain metastases are a common occurrence and a major cause of mortality in non-small-cell lung cancer, with few systemic treatment options. Although targeting epidermal growth factor receptor-associated tyrosine kinase with erlotinib and gefitinib results in durable responses in some patients, the activity of these drugs against brain metastases has been… (More)
Brain resistance to intracerebral superinfections develops after a peripheral inoculation of neurovirulent viruses. Superinfection resistance combines specificity, toward the virus used for the peripheral inoculum, and short-term duration after the inoculum. In order to study this unusual combination, neurovirulent superinfections were made on albino Swiss… (More)
FDG-PET imaging is more frequently being used to stage malignant Lymphoma and monitor response to therapy. However, FDG-PET is not a tumor specific substance and increased accumulation may be seen in a variety of benign entities, our case exemplifies this problem and underline the importance of a biopsy.
The prognosis of pT1a-pT1b breast cancer (BC) used to be considered very good, with a 10-y RFS of 90%. However, some retrospective studies reported a 10-y RFS of 81%–86% and suggested benefit from adjuvant systemic therapy. To evaluate the variables that determined the choice of adjuvant chemotherapy and the type of chemotherapy delivered in pT1a-pT1b BC,… (More)
Pituitary adenomas are the most common etiology of sellar masses. Intra-sellar plasmacytomas are rare causes of sellar tumors of non-pituitary origin and may mimic nonfunctional pituitary adenomas clinically and radiologically. We report an uncommon case of an intrasellar plasmacytoma presenting as the only manifestation of multiple myeloma.
Bisphosphonates (BPs), potent inhibitors of osteoclast-mediated bone resorption, play a major role in the management of patients with multiple myeloma (MM). However, in the case of dental infections, they can lead to bisphosphonate related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ). This process can be worsened by concomitant antineoplastic therapy. Herein, we… (More)
We describe an unusual case of hypoglycemic syndrome in a 69-year old woman with a proinsulin-only secreting pancreatic endocrine adenoma. The clinical history was highly suggestive of an organic hypoglycemia, with normal or relatively low insulin concentrations and elevated proinsulin levels. Magnetic resonance and computed tomography of the abdomen showed… (More)
Thymoma-associated paraneoplastic diseases include myasthenia gravis (MG), neuromyotonia (NMT), Morvan's syndrome, and several non-neurological paraneoplastic manifestations, including glomerulonephritis. Paraneoplastic syndromes often precede the occurrence of thymoma, but cases occurring after thymomectomy, which sometimes herald the recurrence of… (More)
