We report four cases of primary clear-cell adenoma and adenocarcinoma of the large intestine. The neoplasms grossly resembled ordinary colonic adenomas and adenocarcinomas but microscopically were composed of uniform cells with optically clear cytoplasm. Mucin stains were negative, and the clear nature of the cytoplasm was due to glycogen accumulation.… (More)
A 57-year-old woman developed pulmonary sarcoidosis during therapy with interferon beta for advanced renal cell carcinoma metastatic to mediastinal lymph nodes. The possible role of interferon beta in the pathogenesis of sarcoidosis in this patient is discussed.
A previously healthy, 59-year-old man suddenly developed epigastric pain followed by jaundice. Extensive clinical investigations suggested that the patient had a sclerosing cholangitis. At laparotomy, the extrahepatic bile ducts near their confluence were found markedly thickened. A biopsy specimen was obtained from the common bile duct. It showed a diffuse… (More)
Macrocystic serous adenoma of the pancreas (MSAP) is a rare neoplasm. Its preoperative diagnosis by physical examination and imaging studies is challenging, if not impossible. In recent years, a few cases of MSAP with correct cytodiagnosis by transabdominal fine-needle aspiration (TFNA) have been documented. This paper reports two cases of MSAP that were… (More)
Three men and 2 women with ages ranging from 37 to 70 years, clinically and histologically confirmed solitary, palpable metastatic cancers to the thyroid (SMCT) and preoperative cytologic investigation of their thyroid lesions by fine-needle aspiration (FNA), were reviewed. Four patients were known to have a solid cancer treated by radical surgery 1 to 4… (More)
We report a case of a solitary plasmacytoma arising from a thyroid with longstanding Hashimoto's disease, and diagnosed by fine-needle aspiration cytology. Serum protein electrophoresis revealed an M-spike in the gamma-globulin region due to monoclonal IgG-lambda immunoglobulin. The thyroid tumor was treated with near-total thyroidectomy and irradiation,… (More)
A case of histologically and ultrastructurally confirmed carcinoid tumor of the renal pelvis is reported. The patient's urine sediment showed a few groups and sheets of polygonal malignant cells with scant cytoplasm and oval nuclei displaying chromatin clumping and micronucleoli.
Transabdominal fine needle aspiration biopsy of a metastatic myxoid chondrosarcoma in retroperitoneal spaces revealed amorphous mucoid material containing clusters of chondroblasts with round hyperchromatic nuclei and scanty cytoplasm, pleomorphic mesenchymal cells with round nuclei and vacuolated cytoplasm and groups of immature cartilaginous cells with… (More)
