are preaching to the proverbial choir. How can things change so that more of the owners outside the choir are reached with effective messages and services? To meet the broad goals of keeping forests as forests and increasing sound forest stewardship, the forestry community needs a better understanding of family forest owners and it needs to use this(More)
Levocabastine is a recently developed, potent H1-receptor blocker intended for topical application. Seventeen healthy non-atopic volunteers participated in this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study undertaken to investigate the speed of onset of action, efficacy and tolerability of levocabastine eye-drops after a histamine challenge. The(More)
BACKGROUND Global warming has significant negative consequences for human health, with some groups at greater risk than others. The extent to which the public is aware of these risks is unclear; the limited extant research has yielded discrepant findings. OBJECTIVES This paper describes Americans' awareness of the health effects of global warming, levels(More)
Hypertension increased the responsiveness of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) to exogenously infused prostacyclin (PGI2) at rates of 300 ng/kg/min and 1 microgram/kg/min. This did not occur for angiotensin infusion. Substitution of a diet containing alpha-linolenic acid for the control diet to SHR abolished this increased responsiveness to PGI2.(More)
In an animal model, topical application of levocabastine to the eye inhibits the inflammatory conjunctival response to topically applied histamine. This is so even at one-fourth the concentration at which levocabastine is normally dispensed. Total blocking of histamine response continues for 24 h and is then irregularly observable for an additional 72 h.(More)
When histamine is applied topically to the eye it produces stinging and inflammation of the caruncle and bulbar and palpebral conjunctiva. This model has been employed in the present study to assess the ability of an oral antihistamine, astemizole, to attenuate the irritation and inflammatory signs. Astemizole 30 mg, taken orally once daily for 1 week,(More)
