PURPOSE We determined whether decreases in prostate specific antigen (PSA) would occur after withdrawal of double-blinded antiandrogen therapy with flutamide or bicalutamide for clinical progression or increasing PSA concentration in patients receiving combined androgen blockade for advanced prostate cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS PSA concentrations were(More)
Sarcoidosis is a multisystem disorder that rarely involves the genitourinary tract. To date only 28 cases of histologically proved sarcoidosis involving the epididymis have been described in the literature. Although uncommon, sarcoidosis should be considered in any differential diagnosis of testicular lesions. We present 2 cases of epididymal sarcoidosis. A(More)
Between 1985 and 1991, 23 patients underwent resection of pulmonary metastases from renal cell carcinoma, of whom 18 had previously received interleukin-2 based immunotherapies. Mean survival from exploration in all patients was 43 months. Survival after resection did not correlate with the number of nodules on preoperative tomograms, the number of nodules(More)
A total of 63 patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma with the primary kidney tumor in place was accepted as candidates for immunotherapy at the Surgery Branch of the National Cancer Institute. Of the 63 patients 54 underwent nephrectomy and 9 were treated with the primary kidney tumor in place. Many of the patients underwent associated procedures,(More)
We examined the role of two T cell-growth factors, interleukin (IL)-2 and IL-4, in expansion of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) from human tumors. In sarcoma, IL-4 (1,000 U/ml) with IL-2 (10 or 1,000 U/ml) grew TILs better than did IL-2 alone in six of 10 cases during 6 weeks of culture. IL-4 decreased the relative number of CD56+ cells, which(More)
A total of 12 patients with stage 4 renal cell carcinoma and primary renal tumors in situ was entered into a pilot study using treatment with interleukin-2 and alpha-interferon followed by radical nephrectomy. Of the patients 11 underwent nephrectomy after an initial course of immunotherapy. Ten patients were able to receive a second course of immunotherapy(More)
—This paper presents the findings of a case study of a large scale legacy to service-oriented architecture migration process in the payments domain of a Dutch bank. The paper presents the business drivers that initiated the migration, and describes a 4-phase migration process. For each phase, the paper details benefits of using the techniques, best(More)
Studies have shown that haematoporphyrin derivative (HPD) concentrates preferentially in dysplastic and neoplastic tissue, and that illumination of HPD-sensitized carcinoma with 632-nm wavelength light causes tumour destruction. We have treated 14 patients with bladder carcinoma in this way, who fit a rigid protocol, with follow-up ranging from 3–26 months.(More)
