Galileons as Wess-Zumino terms
- Garrett Goon, Kurt Hinterbichler, A. Joyce, M. Trodden
- Mathematics, Physics
- 14 March 2012
A bstractWe show that the galileons can be thought of as Wess-Zumino terms for the spontaneous breaking of space-time symmetries. Wess-Zumino terms are terms which are not captured by the coset…
Symmetries for Galileons and DBI scalars on curved space
- Garrett Goon, Kurt Hinterbichler, M. Trodden
- Physics
- 29 March 2011
We introduce a general class of four-dimensional effective field theories which include curved space Galileons and DBI theories possessing nonlinear shift-like symmetries. These effective theories…
New class of effective field theories from embedded branes.
- Garrett Goon, Kurt Hinterbichler, M. Trodden
- PhysicsPhysical Review Letters
- 10 June 2011
A new general class of four-dimensional effective field theories with interesting global symmetry groups arise from purely gravitational actions for (3+1)-dimensional branes embedded in higher dimensional spaces with induced gravity terms, which may prove relevant to the cosmology of both the early and late universe.
Universal Relation between Corrections to Entropy and Extremality.
- Garrett Goon, R. Penco
- PhysicsPhysical Review Letters
- 11 September 2019
The result proves that the perturbations decrease the mass of extremal black holes, when holding all other extensive variables fixed in the comparison, implying that the extremality relations of a wide class of black holes display weak gravity conjecture-like behavior.
Soft Theorems For Shift-Symmetric Cosmologies
- Bernardo Finelli, Garrett Goon, E. Pajer, Luca Santoni
- Physics
- 10 November 2017
We derive soft theorems for single-clock cosmologies that enjoy a shift symmetry. These so-called consistency conditions arise from a combination of a large diffeomorphism and the internal shift…
Heavy fields and gravity
- Garrett Goon
- Physics
- 8 November 2016
A bstractWe study the effects of heavy fields on 4D spacetimes with flat, de Sitter and anti-de Sitter asymptotics. At low energies, matter generates specific, calculable higher derivative…
Partially massless fields during inflation
- D. Baumann, Garrett Goon, Hayden Lee, G. L. Pimentel
- Physics
- 18 December 2017
A bstractThe representation theory of de Sitter space allows for a category of partially massless particles which have no flat space analog, but could have existed during inflation. We study the…
Shapes of gravity: tensor non-Gaussianity and massive spin-2 fields
- Garrett Goon, Kurt Hinterbichler, A. Joyce, M. Trodden
- PhysicsJournal of High Energy Physics
- 18 December 2018
If the graviton is the only high spin particle present during inflation, then the form of the observable tensor three-point function is fixed by de Sitter symmetry at leading order in slow-roll,…
Aspects of Galileon non-renormalization
- Garrett Goon, Kurt Hinterbichler, A. Joyce, M. Trodden
- Physics
- 7 June 2016
A bstractWe discuss non-renormalization theorems applying to galileon field theories and their generalizations. Galileon theories are similar in many respects to other derivatively coupled effective…
Stability and superluminality of spherical DBI Galileon solutions
- Garrett Goon, Kurt Hinterbichler, M. Trodden
- Physics
- 26 August 2010
The Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) Galileons are a generalization of the Galileon terms, which extend the internal Galilean symmetry to an internal relativistic symmetry, and can also be thought of as…
