Structure-activity relationship in the gastric cytoprotective effect of several sesquiterpene lactones.
The biological evaluation of reduced analogues and the simulation of the molecular interactions between these compounds and an endogenous cysteine residue suggest that the presence of a non sterically hindered Michael acceptor seems to be an essential structural requirement for the cytoprotective activity in this family of compounds. Expand
Anti-ulcerogenic activity of xanthanolide sesquiterpenes from Xanthium cavanillesii in rats.
It is suggested that the mechanism of protection would involve, at least in part, a nucleophylic attack of the sulfhydryl group from the biological molecules present in the gastric mucosa to electrophylic carbons accessible in suitable Michael acceptors. Expand
Antimicrobial activity of Artemisia douglasiana and dehydroleucodine against Helicobacter pylori.
Artemisia douglasiana may be a useful alternative treatment strategy principally in eradication of metronidazole and clarithromycin-resistant strain. Expand
Gastric cytoprotective activity of dehydroleucodine in rats. Role of nitric oxide.
The findings suggest that NO is involved in the gastroprotection induced by DhL, and the gastric cytoprotective effect is antagonized by the nitric oxide synthase inhibitor, NG-nitro-L-arginine. Expand
Antidiarrhoeal activity of Aristolochia argentina Gris. (Aristolochiaceae) in rodents
The results suggest that AALE showed antidiarrhoeal activity by inhibiting intestinal motility and enteropooling property, justify its use in traditional medicine. Expand
Records of Medicinal Plants Utilized as Gastroprotective and for Treatment of Gastrointestinal Ulcers, Gastritis, and Heartburn in Argentina: A Survey of the Literature
Traditional knowledge available on 148 plant species used in Argentina for gastroprotection and treating gastrointestinal ulcers, gastritis, and heartburn, was compiled to analyze their taxonomicExpand
Red blood cell density distribution in uremic patients on acetate and bicarbonate hemodialysis.
The GOT activities in RBCs demonstrated a rejuvenation of the RBC population in the HDB group and HDA group compared to group C (3.9 +/- 1.3 U/g Hb) and 5.4 +/- 2.5 U/ g Hb respectively. Expand
Gastric Anti-ulcer Activity of Several α, β-Unsaturated Carbonyl Compounds in Rat
The gastric cytoprotective activity of several molecules containing an α, β-unsaturated carbonyl system is reported. We attributed this gastroprotective activity to the presence of a non-hinderedExpand
Effect of dehydroleucodine in experimental colitis in rats and mice.
The results suggest that the protective activity of DhL in experimental colitis is mediated, at least in part, through the increase of glycoprotein synthesis, anti-inflammatory effect and inhibition of COX-2 induction, and by inhibiting the degranulation of cells containing monoamines. Expand
Gastric cytoprotective activity of ilicic aldehyde: structure-activity relationships.
A series of sesquiterpene compounds possessing both eudesmane and eremophilane skeletons were tested as gastric cytoprotective agents on male Wistar rats. The presence of an alpha,beta-unsaturatedExpand
