FGF-21 as a novel metabolic regulator.
- A. Kharitonenkov, T. Shiyanova, A. Shanafelt
- Biology, MedicineJournal of Clinical Investigation
- 1 June 2005
It is concluded that FGF-21, which was discovered to be a potent regulator of glucose uptake in mouse 3T3-L1 and primary human adipocytes, exhibits the therapeutic characteristics necessary for an effective treatment of diabetes.
Comprehensive genomic characterization of head and neck squamous cell carcinomas
- M. Lawrence, C. Sougnez, M. Pham
- Biology, MedicineNature
- 28 January 2015
It is shown that human-papillomavirus-associated tumours are dominated by helical domain mutations of the oncogene PIK3CA, novel alterations involving loss of TRAF3, and amplification of the cell cycle gene E2F1.
Comprehensive molecular portraits of human breast tumors
- D. Koboldt, R. Fulton, Jacqueline D. Palchik
- BiologyNature
- 13 July 2012
The ability to integrate information across platforms provided key insights into previously defined gene expression subtypes and demonstrated the existence of four main breast cancer classes when combining data from five platforms, each of which shows significant molecular heterogeneity.

Dicer Is Required for Embryonic Angiogenesis during Mouse Development*
- Wei Yang, Derek D. Yang, S. Na, G. Sandusky, Qing Zhang, Genshi Zhao
- BiologyJournal of Biological Chemistry
- 11 March 2005
The results of this study indicate that Dicer exerts its function on mouse embryonic angiogenesis probably through its role in the processing of microRNAs that regulate the expression levels of some critical angiogenic regulators in the cell.
Bone Neoplasms in F344 Rats Given Teriparatide [rhPTH(1-34)] Are Dependent on Duration of Treatment and Dose
- J. Vahle, G. Long, G. Sandusky, M. Westmore, Y. Ma, Masahiko Sato
- Medicine, BiologyToxicologic pathology (Print)
- 1 June 2004
It is demonstrated that treatment duration and administered dose are the most important factors in the teriparatide-induced bone tumors in rats.
Integrated genomic and molecular characterization of cervical cancer
- R. Burk, Zigui Chen, D. Mutch
- BiologyNature
- 23 January 2017
A unique set of endometrial-like cervical cancers is identified, comprised predominantly of HPV-negative tumours with relatively high frequencies of KRAS, ARID1A and PTEN mutations, which reveal new potential therapeutic targets for cervical cancers.
Fibroblast growth factor-21 improves pancreatic beta-cell function and survival by activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 and Akt signaling pathways.
- W. Wente, A. Efanov, J. Gromada
- Biology, MedicineDiabetes
- 2006
Preservation of beta-cell function and survival by FGF-21 may contribute to the beneficial effects of this protein on glucose homeostasis observed in diabetic animals.
