An estimate of the lower limit of global fungal diversity
This estimate was calculated from the ratio of fungal species to plant species for various ecologically defined groups of fungi in well-studied regions, along with data on each groups’ level of endemism.
Global diversity and distribution of macrofungi
The estimates developed in this study are consistent with a hypothesis of high overall fungal species diversity and are in line with a calculated estimate of between 53,000 and 110,000 macrofungal species derived using plant/macrofungAL species ratio data.
Fungal biodiversity: what do we know? What can we predict?
This paper introduces a set of papers that attempt to develop a rigorous, minimum estimate of global fungal diversity based on a critical assessment of current species lists and informed predictions of missing data and levels of endemism.

A ‘dirty’ business: testing the limitations of terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (TRFLP) analysis of soil fungi
This work investigates the impact of spore contamination, intracollection ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region variation, and conserved restriction enzyme recognition loci on the results produced by TRFLP to characterize soil fungal communities.

Phylogenetic patterns revealed by this study imply a close phylogenetic relationship between eastern Asian and eastern North American disjunct population/species of Suillus, suggesting potential coevolutionary/comigratory trends.

Notes, outline and divergence times of Basidiomycota
Divergence times as additional criterion in ranking provide additional evidence to resolve taxonomic problems in the Basidiomycota taxonomic system, and also provide a better understanding of their phylogeny and evolution.
