Contrary to previous reports, it is shown that parthenolide, like other SLs, inhibits NF-κB most probably by alkylating p65 at Cys38, and the amount of remaining IκB was too low to explain the observed NF-β degradation inhibition.

The common rue extract showed a clear antifeedant activity at a concentration as low as 0.32%, whereas the "tacaco cimarrón" fraction caused toxicity, especially at the two highest concentrations (3.20 and 10%).

It is shown that the main sesquiterpene lactones of this species growing in Costa Rica do not influence the enzymes of the arachidonic acid pathway, but inhibit the activation of NF-kappa B.
