The intraoperative frequence of PL is 12%, and it is considered a normal component of the thyroid, and the whole anterior cervical region has to be investigated very carefully during thyropidectomy not to overlook a long or thin pyramidal lobe or other ectopic thyroid tissue.
Fine-needle aspiration molecular analysis for the diagnosis of papillary thyroid carcinoma through BRAF V600E mutation and RET/PTC rearrangement.
- G. Pizzolanti, L. Russo, C. Giordano
- MedicineThyroid
- 29 November 2007
BRAF(V600E) mutation detected on FNAB specimens, more than RET/PTC rearrangements, is highly specific for PTC and its routine research might well be an adjunctive and integrative diagnostic tool for the preoperative diagnostic iter.

- G. Tomasello, C. Sciumé, F. Cappello
- Biology, MedicineEuropean Journal of Histochemistry
- 19 October 2011
Three other heat shock protein/molecular chaperones are investigated and it is found that the levels of these proteins are increased in UC patients at the time of diagnosis and decrease after therapy, supporting the notion that these proteins deserve attention in the study of the mechanisms that promote the development and maintenance of IBD.

- F. Pisello, G. Geraci, F. Li Volsi, G. Modica, C. Sciumé
- MedicineLangenbeck's archives of surgery (Print)
- 5 August 2008
Endoprosthesis insertion as a permanent therapy is an effective alternative to surgery or dissolution therapy and biliary stenting should preferably be restricted to high-risk patients unfit for operative treatment and with a short life expectancy.

- G. Geraci, F. Pisello, C. Sciumé, F. Li Volsi, M. Romeo, G. Modica
- MedicineAnnali italiani di chirurgia
- 1 May 2007
Flexible bronchoscopy is an extremely safe procedure as long as some basic precautions are taken: complications incidence may be reduced by accurate patient selection, correct indication to bronchoscope with an adequate anaesthesia or analgosedation and the correct endoscope.
