- Biology, ChemistryJournal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry
- 29 January 2010
The results indicate that the ellagitannins and urolithins released in the colon upon consumption of pomegranate juice in considerable amounts could potentially curtail the risk of colon cancer development, by inhibiting cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis.

Results of promising antifungal and antileishmanial activity of hypocrellin A may be useful for further structure-activity relationship and in vivo studies.
Pharmacological Effects of Ephedrine Alkaloids on Human α1- and α2-Adrenergic Receptor Subtypes
- G. Ma, Supriya A. Bavadekar, D. Feller
- Chemistry, BiologyJournal of Pharmacology and Experimental…
- 1 July 2007
These studies have demonstrated that orientation of the β-hydroxyl group on the ethylamino side chain and the state of N-methyl substitution are important for α-AR binding and functional activity of the ephedrine alkaloids.
Effects of synephrine and beta-phenethylamine on human alpha-adrenoceptor subtypes.
- G. Ma, Supriya A. Bavadekar, B. Schaneberg, I. Khan, D. Feller
- Biology, ChemistryPlanta Medica
- 9 March 2010
Differences suggest that the presence of a 4-hydroxy group, as in synephrine, reduced the potency in these subtypes of alpha-adrenergic receptor subtypes, and may act as antagonists of pre-synaptic alpha(2A/2C)-ARs present in nerve terminals.

Inhibition of NF-κB-mediated transcription and induction of apoptosis in human breast cancer cells by epoxypseudoisoeugenol-2-methyl butyrate
- G. Ma, N. Tabanca, Shabana I. Khan
- Biology, MedicineCancer Chemotherapy and Pharmacology
- 1 March 2009
Epoxypseudoisoeugenol-2-methyl butyrate has a potential for use against both hormone-dependent and hormone-independent breast cancers and its effects seem to be mediated by inhibiting the NF-κB activity.

Selective inhibition of human leukemia cell growth and induction of cell cycle arrest and apoptosis by pseudolaric acid B
- G. Ma, L. Chong, Xing-Cong Li, I. Khan, L. Walker, Shabana I. Khan
- Biology, MedicineJournal of Cancer Research and Clinical Oncology
- 7 February 2010
This study indicates that PAB has a potential for use against leukemia and its effects might be mediated by inhibiting tubulin polymerization, preventing cell division and activating caspase-3, which leads to apoptosis.
