- BiologyActa Biochimica Polonica
- 2003
The current state of knowledge about two fully sequenced plasmids RK2 and R751, representatives of the IncP-1alpha and Incp-1beta subgroups, is presented.
ParB of Pseudomonas aeruginosa: Interactions with Its Partner ParA and Its Target parS and Specific Effects on Bacterial Growth
- A. A. Bartosik, K. Lasocki, J. Mierzejewska, Christopher M Thomas, G. Jagura-Burdzy
- BiologyJournal of Bacteriology
- 15 October 2004
The overproduction of ParB was shown to inhibit the function of genes placed near parS, dependent on the parS sequence and its orientation, which may suggest a role for the N terminus of P. aeruginosa ParB in interactions with host cell components.
Bacterial chromosome segregation.

- BiologyActa Biochimica Polonica
- 2005
The chromosomally encoded ParAB homologs of active partitioning proteins of low-copy number plasmids are also players in the segregation of bacterial chromosomes.
Genomic and Functional Characterization of the Modular Broad-Host-Range RA3 Plasmid, the Archetype of the IncU Group
- A. Kulińska, M. Czeredys, F. Hayes, G. Jagura-Burdzy
- BiologyApplied and Environmental Microbiology
- 23 May 2008
Functional analysis demonstrated that RA3 possesses a broad host range and can efficiently self-transfer, replicate, and be maintained stably in alpha-, beta-, and gammaproteobacteria.

Purification of KorA protein from broad host range plasmid RK2: definition of a hierarchy of KorA operators.
- G. Jagura-Burdzy, Christopher M Thomas
- BiologyJournal of Molecular Biology
- 13 October 1995
Gel retardation experiments with DNA fragments carrying each of the seven KorA operators revealed that there is a hierarchy of binding affinities, which may be important in providing a graded response in expression of the operons controlled by KorA as its concentration varies, as for example on transition from exponential to stationary phase.
IncC of Broad-Host-Range Plasmid RK2 Modulates KorB Transcriptional Repressor Activity In Vivo and Operator Binding In Vitro
- G. Jagura-Burdzy, K. Kostelidou, Christopher M Thomas
- BiologyJournal of Bacteriology
- 1 May 1999
The ability of IncC to stabilize KorB-DNA complexes suggests that these two proteins work together in the global regulation of many operons on the IncP-1 genomes, as well in plasmid partitioning.
Repression at a distance by the global regulator KorB of promiscuous IncP plasmids
- G. Jagura-Burdzy, D. Macartney, Christopher M Thomas
- BiologyMolecular Microbiology
- 1 May 1999
KorB protein binds to 12 highly conserved sequences on the RK2 genome and co‐ordinates the expression of at least five operons encoding genes for stable inheritance and plasmid transfer and gel retardation analysis showed that KorB binding is promoted by sequences upstream and downstream of OB9 and that Korb can form higher order complexes on DNA.
ParB deficiency in Pseudomonas aeruginosa destabilizes the partner protein ParA and affects a variety of physiological parameters
- A. A. Bartosik, J. Mierzejewska, Christopher M Thomas, G. Jagura-Burdzy
- BiologyMicrobiology
- 1 April 2009
It can be concluded that either ParB, or ParA and ParB in combination, plays an important role in nucleoid distribution, growth and motility in P. aeruginosa.
Conjugative transfer functions of broad‐host‐range plasmid RK2 are coregulated with vegetative replication
- M. Motallebi‐Veshareh, D. Balzer, E. Lanka, G. Jagura-Burdzy, Christopher M Thomas
- BiologyMolecular Microbiology

It is shown that insertion in ORFI (kilBl) of the region analysed results in a Tra‐ phenotype in plasmids which are otherwise competent for transfer, demonstrating that this locus is essential for transfer and is probably the first gene of the Tra2 region.
