A Simple "Back of the Envelope" Method for Estimating the Densities and Molecular Volumes of Liquids and Solids
- G. Girolami
- 1 November 1994
The method described for the estimation of densities and molecular volumes are surprisingly accurate and very simple.
Role of Pressure in the Growth of Hexagonal Boron Nitride Thin Films from Ammonia-Borane
We analyze the optical, chemical, and electrical properties of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) grown hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) using the precursor ammonia-borane (H3N–BH3) as a function of Ar/H2…
Chemical Vapor Deposition of MoS2 and TiS2 Films From the Metal−Organic Precursors Mo(S-t-Bu)4 and Ti(S-t-Bu)4
The deposition of MoS2 and TiS2 thin films from the metal-organic precursors Mo(S-t-Bu)4 and Ti(S-t-Bu)4 has been investigated. Stoichiometric films with low levels of oxygen and carbon contaminants…
Three-dimensional self-assembled photonic crystals with high temperature stability for thermal emission modification.

- Materials Science, MedicineNature communications
- 16 October 2013
Self-assembled templates are utilized to fabricate high-quality tungsten photonic crystals that demonstrate unprecedented thermal stability up to at least 1,400 °C and modified thermal emission at solar thermophotovoltaic operating temperatures, and comparable thermal and optical results are obtained using a photonic crystal comprising a previously unstudied material, hafnium diboride.
Remote-plasma chemical vapor deposition of conformal ZrB2 films at low temperature: A promising diffusion barrier for ultralarge scale integrated electronics
High-quality ZrB2 thin films have been deposited at substrate temperatures as low as 300 °C by a new method: remote hydrogen-plasma chemical vapor deposition from the single-source precursor…
Consequences of a linear two-coordinate geometry for the orbital magnetism and Jahn-Teller distortion behavior of the high spin iron(II) complex Fe[N(t-Bu)2]2.
- W. Reiff, C. Schulz, +5 authors G. Girolami
- Chemistry, MedicineJournal of the American Chemical Society
- 21 January 2009
Studies of the unusual two-coordinate iron(II) amide Fe[N(t-Bu)(2)](2) show that it retains a linear N-Fe-N framework due to the nonbonding delta nature of the (xy, x(2)-y(2)) orbitals.
Nanoenergetic materials: boron nanoparticles from the pyrolysis of decaborane and their functionalisation.
- Brian J. Bellott, Wontae Noh, R. Nuzzo, G. Girolami
- Materials Science, MedicineChemical communications
- 14 June 2009
The surfaces of boron nanoparticles 10-150 nm in diameter, prepared by gas phase pyrolysis of decaborane vapour at 1 atm and 700-900 degrees C, can be halogenated by treatment with Br2 or XeF2; the…
HfB2 and Hf–B–N hard coatings by chemical vapor deposition
Hard, dense and conformal hafnium diboride (HfB2) thin films were obtained by CVD from the precursor Hf[BH4]4 at deposition temperatures ≤350 °C. As-deposited films were X-ray amorphous but…
