A new class of drugs that selectively block serotonin M-receptors on peripheral neurones are described, some of which are the most potent of any pharmacological class yet reported.

The low dissociation constant of ICYP in combination with its high specific radioactivity allows binding studies to be carried out with small protein and ligand concentrations, e.g. 3 μg protein per assay in guinea pig lung membranes.

Twenty of 80 strains of Penicillium roqueforti were able to produce up to 600 mg of mycophenolic acid (MPA) liter in 2% yeast extract-5% sucrose broth and Toxicity of MPA was tested with two established human cell lines and one established pig kidney cell line.

Study of the contractile effect of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) in the isolated longitudinal muscle strip from guinea-pig ileum
- K. Buchheit, G. Engel, E. Mutschler, B. Richardson
- Biology, ChemistryNaunyn-Schmiedeberg's Archives of Pharmacology

It is concluded that in longitudinal muscle strips from the ileum of adult guinea-pigs a contractile action of 5-HT can be mediated by the activation of three independent receptors.

Analysis of data from displacement curves by means of a curve fitting procedure and non-linear regression analysis indicated that in both tissues beta 1- and beta 2-type adrenoceptors coexisted, suggesting that the 'cardioselectivity ratio" of a compound is the same in the guinea pig and in man.

5-HT1A-receptors mediate stimulation of adenylate cyclase in rat hippocampus
- R. Markstein, D. Hoyer, G. Engel
- Biology, ChemistryNaunyn-Schmiedeberg's Archives of Pharmacology

Data support the concept that 5-HT stimulated adenylate cyclase activity in rat hippocampus is mediated by a5-HT1A receptor, as pharmacologically characterised with a series of agonists and antagonists of various structural classes.
