Prophylactic cranial irradiation given to patients with small-cell lung cancer in complete remission decreases the risk of brain metastasis threefold without a significant increase in complications.

What does transient global amnesia really mean? Review of the literature and thorough study of 142 cases.
This paper reported 142 personal TGA cases, and suggested the existence of different groups of TGA patients, on the basis of a hierarchical cluster analysis, which revealed that in women, episodes are mainly associated with an emotional precipitating event, a history of anxiety and a pathological personality.
Relationships between Hippocampal Atrophy, White Matter Disruption, and Gray Matter Hypometabolism in Alzheimer's Disease

It is found that hippocampal atrophy is specifically related to cingulum bundle disruption, which is in turn highly correlated to hypometabolism of the posterior cingulate cortex but also of the middle cingulates gyrus, thalamus, mammillary bodies, parahippocampal gyrus and hippocampus, as well as the right temporoparietal associative cortex.
Direct voxel-based comparison between grey matter hypometabolism and atrophy in Alzheimer's disease.
- G. Chételat, B. Desgranges, J. Baron
- Medicine, PsychologyBrain : a journal of neurology
- 3 December 2007
The hypometabolism significantly exceeded atrophy in most altered structures, particularly in the posterior cingulate-precuneus, orbitofrontal, inferior temporo-parietal, parahippocampal, angular and fusiform areas.
Mapping gray matter loss with voxel-based morphometry in mild cognitive impairment

- Psychology, BiologyNeuroreport
- 28 October 2002
This pattern of gray matter loss in mild cognitive impairment agrees with but considerably expands upon previous region-of-interest based MRI studies, and is highly consistent with the course of neurofibrillary tangles across aging and Alzheimer's disease.

Distinct and shared cognitive functions mediate event- and time-based prospective memory impairment in normal ageing

It is found that normal ageing was characterised by PM decline in all conditions and that event- based PM was more sensitive to the effects of ageing than time-based PM, which confirmed that each type of PM relies on a different set of processes.
