The topoisomerase II inhibitor, genistein, induces G2/M arrest and apoptosis in human malignant glioma cell lines.
- F. Schmidt, C. Knobbe, B. Frank, H. Wolburg, M. Weller
- BiologyOncology Report
- 1 April 2008
Genistein-like protein kinase inhibitors are promising agents for the experimental treatment of malignant gliomas and did not act in synergy with CD95 ligand-induced apoptosis or various cancer chemotherapy drugs in cytotoxic or clonogenic cell death assays.
Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy: analysis of lesion development with diffusion-weighted MRI
- I. Mader, U. Herrlinger, U. Klose, F. Schmidt, W. Küker
- MedicineNeuroradiology
- 27 August 2003
Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) was obtained in two patients with PML, in whom it was the only MRI sequence on which it could identify areas of progressive disease, and the extent of abnormal diffusion appeared to correlate with the speed of clinical progression.
PCV chemotherapy for recurrent glioblastoma
- F. Schmidt, J. Fischer, U. Herrlinger, K. Dietz, J. Dichgans, M. Weller
- MedicineNeurology
- 28 February 2006
The authors administered procarbazine, 1-(2-chloroethyl)-3-cyclohexyl-1-nitrosourea (CCNU, lomustine), and vincristine (PCV) to 86 patients with recurrent glioblastoma. There were three partial…
Low molecular weight heparin for deep vein thrombosis in glioma patients
- F. Schmidt, C. Faul, J. Dichgans, M. Weller
- MedicineJournal of Neurology
- 1 October 2002
Low molecular weight heparin therapy may be safe and effective in the treatment and secondary prophylaxis of DVT in patients with malignant glioma.
MRI characteristics of acute and subacute brainstem and thalamic infarctions: value of T2- and diffusion-weighted sequences
Pons, midbrain and thalamic infarctions can reliably be visualized by a combination of DW-MRI and T2-weighted images beginning 12 hours after the ischemic attack, however, sensitivity seems to be lower earlier than 12Hours after ischemia and for medulla oblongata lesions.
Adenoviral natural born killer gene therapy for malignant glioma.
- U. Naumann, F. Schmidt, M. Weller
- BiologyHuman Gene Therapy
- 1 September 2003
Ad-NBK triggers an XIAP- and zVAD-fmk-sensitive cell death pathway in glioma cells with potential therapeutic value, provided that NBK expression can be selectively targeted to cancer cells.
Lovastatin and phenylacetate induce apoptosis, but not differentiation, in human malignant glioma cells
- F. Schmidt, P. Groscurth, Monika Kermer, J. Dichgans, M. Weller
- Biology, MedicineActa Neuropathologica
- 1 March 2001
It is concluded that neoplastic glioma cells as well as untransformed rat astrocytes are refractory to the induction of differentiation by lovastatin and phenylacetate.
Bilateral Wallerian degeneration of the middle cerebellar peduncles due to paramedian pontine infarction: MRI findings
- W. Küker, F. Schmidt, S. Heckl, T. Nägele, U. Herrlinger
- Biology, MedicineNeuroradiology
- 29 October 2004
A patient who developed degeneration of both middle cerebellar peduncles after a paramedian pontine infarction is reported on.
Incomplete Resolution of Basilar Artery Occlusion after Intra-Arterial Thrombolysis: Abciximab and Heparin Prevent Early Rethrombosis

Myelopathy in primary Sjögren's syndrome: diagnostic and therapeutic aspects
- M. Hermisson, R. Klein, F. Schmidt, M. Weller, W. Küker
- MedicineActa Neurologica Scandinavica
- 1 June 2002
Although this is only a case report, the combination of azathioprine and prednisone may be a valuable medication in chronic cases of Sjögren's syndrome with neurologic symptoms.
