Blastomycosis in northeast Tennessee.
blastomycosis is endemic in northeast Tennessee and the number of cases is increasing, coinciding with major new construction in the region, and clinicians in the area must be alert to this condition. Expand
Inheritance of low-level resistance to penicillin, tetracycline, and chloramphenicol in Neisseria gonorrhoeae
Low-level resistance to tetracycline or chloramphenicol was due to similar additive effects between mutations at the nonspecific ery and penB loci and a locus specific for resistance to each drug (tet and chl, respectively). Expand
Corynebacterium striatum: an underappreciated community and nosocomial pathogen.
The present review describes the wide spectrum of infections associated with Corynebacterium striatum and adds a unique case of CS pancreatic abscess where treatment included linezolid. Expand
Gentamicin serum concentrations: pharmacokinetic predictions.
A digital computer program is developed and tested its ability to predict correctly gentamicin serum levels under clinical conditions and it was found that the calculation of volume of distribution on the basis of the patient's lean body weight rather than total body weight was an important factor that contributed to the accuracy of the predicted level. The Epidemiology of Mupirocin Resistance Among Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus at a Veterans' Affairs Hospital
Use of mupirocin ointment in a program aimed at managing endemic MRSA infection or colonization resulted in a significant increase in the recovery of high-level MR MRSA isolates, which appeared to emerge from the existing MRSA pool. Expand
Enterococcal meningitis: report of four cases and review.
The small number of patients in this review failed to demonstrate a definite difference in mortality among patients treated with cell wall-active agents alone vs. those treated with combination therapy with an aminoglycoside, although studies of patients with other complicated enterococcal infections suggest that combination therapy would be preferable. Loss of low-level antibiotic resistance in Neisseria gonorrhoeae due to env mutations
Mutations (env) which resulted in increased sensitivity of gonococci to diverse compounds were studied by transformation. Strains carrying an env mutation were more sensitive than wild-type strainsExpand
Environmental study of a methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus epidemic in a burn unit
During an outbreak of infections caused by methicillin-resistant (MR) Staphylococcus aureus in our burn unit, we conducted an extensive 10-week study to define the environmental epidemiology of theExpand
Mupirocin-Resistant, Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus: Does Mupirocin Remain Effective?
Mupirocin was effective in eradicating MS MRSA, but strains of MR MRSA often persisted after treatment, which appeared to reflect treatment failure rather than exogenous recolonization. Expand
