Discrete breathers in protein structures
- F. Piazza, Y. Sanejouand
- PhysicsPhysical Biology
- 25 February 2008
The regions of protein structures where DBs form easily are unfailingly the most highly connected ones, also characterized by weak local clustering, which reinforces the idea that localized modes of nonlinear origin may play an important biological role, e.g., by providing a ready channel for energy storage and/or contributing to lower energy barriers of chemical reactions.
Long-range energy transfer in proteins
- F. Piazza, Y. Sanejouand
- BiologyPhysical Biology
- 17 August 2009
It is shown, within the framework of a coarse-grained nonlinear network model, that energy in a protein can jump from site to site with high yields, covering in many instances remarkably large distances.
Cavity QED with quantum gases: new paradigms in many-body physics

We review the recent developments and the current status in the field of quantum-gas cavity QED. Since the first experimental demonstration of atomic self-ordering in a system composed of a…
Dynamics of a tunable superfluid junction.
- L. LeBlanc, A. B. Bardon, A. Smerzi
- PhysicsPhysical Review Letters
- 17 June 2010
The population dynamics of a Bose-Einstein condensate in a double-well potential throughout the crossover from Josephson dynamics to hydrodynamics is studied and implications for trapped matter-wave interferometers are discussed.
Cooling nonlinear lattices toward energy localization.
The energy relaxation process produced by surface damping on lattices of classical anharmonic oscillators is described and a statistical analysis of the resulting quasistationary state through the distribution of breathers' energies yield information on their effective interactions.

Genus Four Superstring Measures
- S. Cacciatori, F. Piazza, B. V. Geemen

- 3 April 2008
A main issue in superstring theory are the superstring measures. D’Hoker and Phong showed that for genus two these reduce to measures on the moduli space of curves which are the product of modular…
Functional dynamics of PDZ binding domains: a normal-mode analysis.
- P. De Los Rios, F. Cecconi, B. Juanico
- BiologyBiophysical Journal
- 14 March 2005
PDZ domains are a very clear example of how collective normal modes are able to characterize the relation between function and dynamics of proteins, and to provide indications on the precursors of binding/unbinding events.

This article analyzes the results of cryo-electron tomography experiments performed on monoclonal murine IgG2a antibodies, measures the equilibrium distribution of the molecule in terms of the relevant angular coordinates and builds a mechanical model of the antibody dynamics.
