Diversity of parasites of fish from the Upper Paraná River floodplain, Brazil.
Monogeneans presented the highest number of species, followed by digeneans, and the infection site with the highest species richness was the intestine, with 127 species. Expand
Ecological aspects of metazoan endoparasites of Metynnis lippincottianus (Cope, 1870) (Characidae) from Upper Paraná River floodplain, Brazil
Results suggest that species are coexisting without competition in Metynnis lippincottianus, Brazil, and positive association between D. pacupeva and two nematode species was observed, including positive and significant covariation between their abundances. Expand
Metazoan parasite fauna of two peacock-bass cichlid fish in Brazil
The present paper collaborates with the study of conservation biology by adding new records of parasite species in C. kelberi and C. piquiti, and new biogeography records of parasites in six different aquatic ecosystems in Brazil. Expand
Two new species of Sciadicleithrum (Monogenea, Dactylogyridae) parasites of Neotropical cichlid fishes from the Paraná River, Brazil
Two new species of Sciadicleithrum are described from the gills of Neotropical cichlid fishes collected from Paraná River, Brazil. Sciadicleithrum satanopercae sp. nov. is described from the gills ofExpand
Gill ectoparasite assemblages of two non-native Cichla populations (Perciformes, Cichlidae) in Brazilian reservoirs
The results suggest that the trend of parasite species loss through the invasion process may have contributed to the establishment of non-native C. piquiti and C. kelberi populations in Brazilian reservoirs. Expand
Endoparasites of Steindachinerina brevipinna (Eigenmann and Eigenmann, 1889), collected in the tributaries Corvo and Guairacá of Paranapanema river, Paraná State, Brazil
The present study records and illustrates a species of digenean, Sphincterodiplastomum musculosum from subfamily Diplostominae, present on the ovary and three species of nematodes, Cosmoxynema vianai Travassos, 1949, Travnema travnema Pereira, 1938 and Spinoxyuris sp. Expand
Parasitism by Sphincterodiplostomum musculosum (Digenea, Diplostomidae) metacercariae in the eyes of Steindachnerina insculpta (Characiformes, Curimatidae).
The histological analyses revealed that the metacercariae were apparently lodged behind the retina, and this pattern can be explained by the cumulative effect of parasitism, as demonstrated by the positive correlation between the abundance of metacertariae and fish body size. Expand
Two new species of Sciadicleithrum (Monogenea: Dactylogyridae), gill parasites of Geophagus proximus (Castelnau) (Teleostei: Cichlidae), from the upper Paraná River floodplain, Brazil
Sciadicleithrum kritskyi n. sp. and Sciadicleithrum paranaensis n. sp. are described from the gills of the acara tinga, Geophagus proximus (Cichlidae), from the upper Parana River floodplain, Brazil.Expand
A New Species of Cosmetocleithrum (Monogenea, Dactylogyridae), a Gill Parasite of Trachelyopterus galeatus (Siluriformes, Auchenipteridae) from Brazil, with Notes on the Morphology of
A new species of Cosmetocleithrum Kritsky, Thatcher and Boeger, 1986 is described from the gills of the catfish Trachelyopterus galeatus from the mouth of the Aguapeí River, municipality of Castilho, São Paulo State, Brazil. Expand
Ecological implications of floods on the parasite communities of two freshwater catfishes in a Neotropical floodplain
The results corroborate the hypothesis that floods are one of the most significant influences on shaping the parasite communities of fish in floodplains and warn environmental agencies and hydroelectric companies about the importance of the conservation of the diversity of this location. Expand
