The abuse of doping agents in competing body builders in Flanders (1988-1993).
Analytical findings of unannounced doping control in body builders in Flanders during 1988-1993 are reported and there was no fall in drug abuse over this period and steroids were taken even by body builders associated with an organisation against the use of anabolic steroids.

This paper reviews the prevalence of legal and illegal stimulants in relation to doping-control analysis and highlights several early detection techniques including GC–NPD, GC–ECD, and TLC.

The fast and selective liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometric method was applied to detect diuretics after the oral administration of several drugs including hydrochlorothiazide, bumetanide, spironolactone, furosemide, amiloride, triamterene, chlortalidone and epithizide.
Caffeine: use and abuse in sports.
A "maximum level of caffeine" of 15 micrograms X ml-1 in urine for sporting competitions is proposed based on results for sportsmen and the younger categories (debutant and junior).
Distribution of caffeine levels in urine in different sports in relation to doping control.
Comparison of those sports with more than 200 samples being analysed demonstrated that caffeine concentrations in urine samples from bodybuilders are significantly higher in comparison to urines taken in the other sports.

The urinary excretion of caffeine in humans was followed over a period of 36 h after the oral administration of ANIMINE®, a formulation containing caffeine‐α‐naphthylacetate.
ELISA detection of fentanyl in horse urine and plasma.
The prototype of a commercial ELISA test kit designed for fentanyl determination in human urine has been evaluated for screening fentanyl in horse urine and plasma and it is found that the ELISA assay is simple and could be successfully used for quantitative measurements in diluted urine.
