The mitochondrial DNAs (mtDNAs) and the ribosomal repeat unit (ribosomal DNA, rDNA) of black Aspergillus isolates collected in various parts of the world were examined. Wide-ranging mtDNA variation…
Vegetative incompatibility in Neurospora: its effect on horizontal transfer of mitochondrial plasmids and senescence in natural populations
The results suggest that each of the nine Kalilo strains tested is incompatible with each of 20 non-Kalilo isolates from the same N. intermedia population of the Hawaiian island of Kauai, and the observed incompatibility did not completely prevent cytoplasmic exchange, and in several cases plasmid transfer could be detected.
Genetic maps of eight linkage groups of Aspergillus niger based on mitotic mapping
A genetic map of Aspergillus niger is provided, where 84 markers have been assigned to eight linkage groups based on recombination due to mitotic crossing over, and the chromosomal location of 60 markers is presented.
The ultrastructure and renewal of the intestinal epithelium of the juvenile grasscarp, Ctenopharyngodon idella (Val.)
The functional absorptive cells proved to be generally present in the intestinal epithelium, including the proliferative area, and the cell renewal system in the mammalian intestine was compared with data on absorption of lipid and protein macromolecules in teleostean and mammalian intestines.
The complete karyotype of Aspergilius niger: the use of introduced electrophoretic mobility variation of chromosomes for gene assignment studies
A method is described for unambiguous assignment of cloned genes to Aspergillus niger chromosomes by CHEF gel electrophoresis and Southern analysis. All of the eight linkage groups (LGs), with the…
Genotoxicity of quercetin in cultured mammalian cells.
Phylogenetic analysis of newly described Neosartorya species
Phylogenetic analyses supported the earlier suggestions that heterothallism is a derived character, and that sexuality was lost several times during the evolution of Aspergillus section Fumigati, and established relationships among newly described Neosartorya species and other taxa based on phylogenetic analysis of β-tubulin sequences.
Genetic variability and relatedness in the complex group of black Aspergilli based on random amplification of polymorphic DNA
This study indicates that the complex group of black Aspergilli is characterized by a high degree of genetic differentiation, also apparent from the considerable karyotype variation present in the group.
Independence of sexual and vegetative incompatibility mechanisms of Thanatephorus cucumeris (Rhizoctonia solani) anastomosis group 1
The soilborne plant pathogen Thanatephorus cucumeris (anamorph Rhizoctonia solani) is a basidiomycete that occurs worldwide and causes damage to a large variety of agricultural crops. The lack of…
