It is concluded that CA IX has a capacity to modulate E-cadherin-mediated cell adhesion via interaction with beta-catenin, which could be of potential significance in hypoxia-induced tumor progression.
Influence of residue 44 on the activity of the M2 proton channel of influenza A virus.

- BiologyJournal of General Virology

Of three amino acid differences at residues 27, 38 and 44 within the membrane-spanning domain, substitution at residue 44 was necessary and sufficient to account for differences in trans-Golgi pH-modulating activity, whereas changes in all three were required to switch the activation characteristics of the Weybridge M2 to those of the Rostock M2.

Using genetically engineered MN protein, a radioimmunoassay for MN‐specific antibodies, and for quantitative determination of MN proteins in cell extracts are developed and visualized the p54/58N on the surface microvilli and in the nucleus, particularly in nucleoli.
DNA barcode reference libraries for the monitoring of aquatic biota in Europe: Gap-analysis and recommendations for future work

This work analysed gaps in the two most important reference databases, Barcode of Life Data Systems (BOLD) and NCBI GenBank, with a focus on the taxa most frequently used in WFD and MSFD, and shows that coverage varies strongly among taxonomic groups, and among geographic regions.

Ectodomain shedding of the hypoxia-induced carbonic anhydrase IX is a metalloprotease-dependent process regulated by TACE/ADAM17
- M. Zaťovičová, O. Sedlakova, S. Pastoreková
- BiologyBritish Journal of Cancer
- 8 November 2005
The results suggest that the cleavage of CA IX ectodomain is a regulated process that responds to physiological factors and signal transduction stimuli and may therefore contribute to adaptive changes in the protein composition of tumour cells and their microenvironment.
