A critical function in outage management for distribution systems is to quickly detect a fault and identify the activated protective device(s). With ongoing smart grid development, numerous smart meters and fault indicators with communication capabilities provide an opportunity for accurate and efficient outage management. Using the available data, this… (More)
We present a comparison of a LQR controller and Q-learning on a simulation of a triple inverted pendulum. While the LQR controller was able to balance the pendulum, Qlearning was unable due to memory and computing limitations. We examine the strengths and weaknesses of each method and compare their abilities.
Computers networks have introduced incredibly large data sets that need to be understood by human analysts. Traditional methods of presenting these large data sets to humans are typically cumbersome and ineffective. This paper introduces an architecture that takes advantage of human visual processing skills and represents network data as a 3D abstraction… (More)
