- Chemistry, Materials ScienceJournal of Physical Chemistry B
- 29 July 2010
The calculations and experimental data suggest a central role for the gel solvent molecule as a catalytic agent and proton transfer vehicle and the fact that long-lived paramagnetism may be included among the inducible properties of soft polymer gels is shown.
Photoactive proton conductor: poly(4-vinyl pyridine) gel.

- Materials ScienceJournal of Physical Chemistry B
- 5 March 2008
We describe a hydrogen-bonded poly(4-vinyl pyridine)-based dielectric material, in which conductivity can be induced due to the presence of side-chain protonated species that form spontaneously when…
White Light and Heat Sensitivity in a Pyridine-Based Polymer Blend
- E. Vaganova, E. Wachtel, A. Goldberg, S. Yitzchaik
- Materials Science
- 12 November 2012
Sensing from the ultraviolet to the infrared is important for a number of scientific and industrial applications. Poly(4-vinyl pyridine) swollen in liquid pyridine functions as a photoconductive gel…
Acidity of the methyne group of poly(4-vinylpyridine) leads to side-chain protonation in pyridine
- E. Vaganova, M. Rozenberg, F. Dubnikova, D. Danovich, S. Yitzchaik
- Chemistry
- 27 July 2015
Poly(4-vinylpyridine) swollen in pyridine displays changes in electrical conductivity in response to white light and to low level thermal perturbation; protonation of the side-chain nitrogen is…
Structural and optical properties of poly(4-vinyl pyridine)/pyridine gels
- E. Vaganova, S. Yitzchaik
- Materials Science, Chemistry
- 1 February 2004
A study of photoinduced processes in pyridine-based gels is presented. Poly(4-vinyl pyridine) dissolved in pyridine with water addition forms a photosensitive material. Under irradiation at the main…
Photoinduced Pyridine Cleavage-Closure in Viscous Polymer Solutions
- E. Vaganova, C. Damm, G. Israel, S. Yitzchaik
- Materials Science, ChemistryJournal of Fluorescence
- 1 June 2002
We have found that photoinduced pyridine ring cleavage-closure occurs in polymeric viscous solution, because in certain polymer solutions, pyridine can serve as a photo-modulated crosslinker. We…
Tunable emission in poly(4‐vinylpyridine)‐based gel

We have discovered a new class of smart-gels, poly(4-vinylpyridine) (PVPy) swollen with pyridine (Py), that following photoexcitation (395, 455, 557 nm) emits three independent colors: blue, green,…
