Rapid SNP Discovery and Genetic Mapping Using Sequenced RAD Markers
- N. Baird, P. Etter, Eric A. Johnson
- BiologyPLoS ONE
- 13 October 2008
The sequencing of restriction-site associated DNA (RAD) tags was described, which identified more than 13,000 SNPs, and three traits in two model organisms were mapped, using less than half the capacity of one Illumina sequencing run.
The genome sequence of the filamentous fungus Neurospora crassa
- J. Galagan, S. Calvo, B. Birren
- BiologyNature
- 24 April 2003
A high-quality draft sequence of the N. crassa genome is reported, suggesting that RIP has had a profound impact on genome evolution, greatly slowing the creation of new genes through genomic duplication and resulting in a genome with an unusually low proportion of closely related genes.
Lessons from the Genome Sequence of Neurospora crassa: Tracing the Path from Genomic Blueprint to Multicellular Organism
- K. Borkovich, L. Alex, R. Pratt
- BiologyMicrobiology and Molecular Biology Reviews
- 1 March 2004
An analysis of over 1,100 of the ∼10,000 predicted proteins encoded by the genome sequence of the filamentous fungus Neurospora crassa reveals potential new targets for antifungals as well as loci implicated in human and plant physiology and disease.
Sequencing of Aspergillus nidulans and comparative analysis with A. fumigatus and A. oryzae
- J. Galagan, S. Calvo, B. Birren
- BiologyNature
- 1 December 2005
The aspergilli comprise a diverse group of filamentous fungi spanning over 200 million years of evolution, and a comparative study with Aspergillus fumigatus and As pergillus oryzae, used in the production of sake, miso and soy sauce, provides new insight into eukaryotic genome evolution and gene regulation.
A histone H3 methyltransferase controls DNA methylation in Neurospora crassa
It is demonstrated that recombinant DIM-5 protein specifically methylates histone H3 and that replacement of lysine 9 in hist one H3 with either a leucine or an arginine phenocopies the dim-5 mutation, concluding that DNA methylation depends on histone methylation.
A nomenclature for restriction enzymes, DNA methyltransferases, homing endonucleases and their genes.
- R. Roberts, M. Belfort, Shuang-yong Xu
- BiologyNucleic Acids Research
- 1 April 2003
A nomenclature is described for restriction endonucleases, DNA methyltransferases, homing endonucleases and related genes and gene products. It provides explicit categories for the many different…

Premeiotic instability of repeated sequences in Neurospora crassa.
- E. Selker
- BiologyAnnual Review of Genetics
- 1990
Premeiotic intrachromosomal recombination deletes tandem repeats at high frequency in both homothallic and heterothallic filamentous ascomycetes, which potentially stabilizes the gross organization of the genome.
