The expression of Brachyury (T) during gastrulation in the marsupial frog Gastrotheca riobambae.
- E. M. Pino
- Biology
- 10 July 1996
The separation of gastrulation events in embryos that have not been experimentally manipulated, such as those of Gastrotheca, helps in understanding the distinct nature of gastRulation processes.
Modifications of oogenesis and development in marsupial frogs
- E. M. Pino
- Biology
- 1 October 1989
In an ancient and diverse group, such as the anurans, there might be many cases of similarity due to derived features, and the current knowledge of many characters and their evolutionary change does not allow the reconstruction of the anuran phylogeny (Duellman and Trueb, 1986).
A novel development pattern for frogs: gastrulation produces an embryonic disk
- E. M. Pino, R. Elinson
- BiologyNature
- 1 December 1983
It is reported here that early developmental pattern in Gastrotheca differs from other frogs, particularly with respect to gastrulation, which results in the formation of an embryonic disk.
Interactions between gametes and environment in the toad Xenopus laevis (Daudin) and their relationship to fertilization
- E. M. Pino
- Biology
- 1 July 1973
The Xenopus laevis egg jelly becomes swollen in different solutions: however; the degree of swelling of each of the three jelly layers and appearance vary depending on the medium. On eggs kept in a…
Progesterone induces incubatory changes in the brooding pouch of the frog Gastrotheca riobambae (Fowler)
- E. M. Pino
- Biology, Medicine
- 1 July 1983
The results suggest that pituitary gonadotropin indirectly induces the incubatory changes of the pouch by stimulating the secretion of a progesterone-like hormone from the ovary.
MULTIPLE NUCLEI DURING EARLY OOGENESIS IN FLECTONOTUS PYGMAEUS AND OTHER MARSUPIAL FROGS
- E. M. Pino, A. Humphries
- Biology
- 1 April 1978
The occurrence of niultinucleate stages as a regular feature of oogenesis in several genera of marsupial frogs of South America is reported.
Morphology of the Pouch and Incubatory Integument in Marsupial Frogs (Hylidae)
- E. M. Pino
- Biology
- 1 February 1980
In female Amphignathodon, Flectonotus, Fritziana and Gastrotheca, the dorsal integument forms the marsupial pouch that extends into the dorsal and sometimes the lateral lymph spaces, and at incubation it becomes attenuated, vascularized, and forms partitions between embryos.
Urea is Necessary for the Culture of Embryos of the Marsupial Frog Gastrotheca riobambae, and is Tolerated by Embryos of the Aquatic Frog Xenopus laevis
- E. M. Pino, I. Alcocer, H. Grunz
- Biology
- 1 February 1994
Findings suggest that urea plays a role in the adaptation of G. riobambae embryos to the conditions of water stress within the maternal pouch and no inducing effects of urea have been detected in animal cap explants of Xenopus.
The Organizer in Amphibians with Large Eggs: Problems and Perspectives
- E. M. Pino, R. Elinson
- Biology
- 2004
The study of the morphological variation and gene expression patterns among amphibians provides comparative data on early development and represents natural experiments that expand the understanding of development.
