The phylogeny of termites (Dictyoptera: Isoptera) based on mitochondrial and nuclear markers: Implications for the evolution of the worker and pseudergate castes, and foraging behaviors.
- F. Legendre, M. Whiting, C. Bordereau, E. M. Cancello, T. Evans, P. Grandcolas
- Biology, MedicineMolecular phylogenetics and evolution
- 1 August 2008
The data support a traditional hypothesis of foraging behavior, in which the evolutionary transition from a one-piece type to a separate life type occurred through an intermediate behavioral form.
Sex pheromone identified after Solid Phase Microextraction from tergal glands of female alates in Cornitermes bequaerti (Isoptera, Nasutitermitinae)
- C. Bordereau, E. M. Cancello, E. Sémon, A. Courrent, B. Quennedey
- BiologyInsectes Sociaux
- 1 August 2002
For the first time, a termite sex pheromone secreted by tergal glands has been isolated and identified and the cellular origin and the key role of (3Z, 6Z, 8E)-dodecatrien-1-ol in the biology of termites are discussed.
Neotropical termites: revision of Armitermes Wasmann (Isoptera, Termitidae, Syntermitinae) and phylogeny of the Syntermitinae
A phylogenetic analysis of Syntermitinae is presented, including representatives of all genera of the subfamily, along with all 12 species assigned formerly to the genus Armitermes Wasmann, and all 4 new species described herein, and a dichotomous key, based on soldiers, is provided.
31 a new species of Glossotermes (Isoptera): Reappraisal of the generic status with transfer from the rhinotermitidae to the serritermitidae
It is proposed to remove Glossotermes from Psammotermitinae and reassign it to the previously monotypic family Serritermitidae, and provide a new definition for this family and the two new subfamilies (Glossotermitinee and SerriterMitinae).
Latitudinal Variation in Termite Species Richness and Abundance along the Brazilian Atlantic Forest Hotspot
- E. M. Cancello, Rogério R. Silva, A. Vasconcellos, Y. Reis, Luís Cláudio de Oliveira
- 1 July 2014
The results indicate comparatively high termite species richness at northeastern sites and a significant impoverishment of termite assemblages in the southeastern and southern regions of the Atlantic Forest.
Identification of multi-component trail pheromones in the most evolutionarily derived termites, the Nasutitermitinae (Termitidae).
The secretion of trail pheromone blends appears to be an important step in the evolution of chemical communication in termites, which optimizes foraging, and promotes their ecological success.
A taxonomic revision of the Neotropical termite genus Rhynchotermes (Isoptera, Termitidae, Syntermitinae).
The taxonomy of the Neotropical syntermitine genus Rhynchotermes Holmgren is revised, providing a key to the soldiers of the genus, a distribution map of the species as well as illustrations and biological notes for all species.

Revisiting Coptotermes (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae): a global taxonomic road map for species validity and distribution of an economically important subterranean termite genus
This project is intended to be a roadmap for identifying those Coptotermes species names that need to be more thoroughly investigated, as an incentive to complete a necessary revision process of the genus.
NMR structure determination of (11E)-trinervita-1(14),2,11-triene, a new diterpene from sexual glands of termites
Abstract Female alates of Nasutitermes ephratae termites from Guadeloupe and Nasutitermes sp. from Brazil produce a diterpene hydrocarbon of the molecular formula C 20 H 30 as the main component of…
