Treatment with acetylhomocysteine thiolactone significantly reduces the cellular level of lipofuscin in neurons of the electric lobe ofTorpedo marmorata. At the same time, this drug produces a 45% decrease in nucleolar volume in these neurons, reflecting decreased cellular synthetic activity.
The yellow-brown pigment present in the sensory cells ofAplysia limacina was studied using light and electron microscopy. The ultrastructure, the high carotenoid content and the presence in neurons for which a turnover process has been hypothesized, indicate that these pigments are cytosomes, organelles involved in the production of energy in anaerobiosis.
We studied the effect of a component (Fe3+) of a polluted atmosphere on the dynamic interactions among biotic and abiotic components of a simulated broad-leaved forest ecosystem in the district of Presila Cosentina. We reproduced, in laboratory trials, the environmental conditions and time sequences of most of the organic and inorganic parameters that… (More)
