On the basis of original morphotypes characterized by individual traits and attributes valuable for breeding, a new winter rye morphotype capable of producing a high yield under drought conditions has been created as a result of their free cross-pollination and selection.
The productivity and adaptive potential of new winter rye morphotypes as compared with those widespread in production are studied with different sowing rates. Each morphotype is characterized, the most prospective one is singled out, and the directions of breeding them are indicated.
Methods of breeding winter rye that simultaneously increase plant productivity and resistance to adverse environmental conditions are proposed. The methods are evaluated on various breeding material; a variety having practical value is created.
