Nanophotonic waveguides and components are promising for use in the large-scale integration of photonic circuits. Coupling light between nanophotonic waveguides and a single-mode fiber is an important problem and many different solutions have been proposed and demonstrated in recent years. In this paper, we discuss a grating coupler approach. Grating… (More)
We report the fabrication of low-loss amorphous silicon photonic wires deposited by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition. Single mode photonic wires were fabricated by 193nm optical lithography and dry etching. Propagation loss measurements show a loss of 3.46dB/cm for photonic wires (480×220nm) and 1.34dB/cm for ridge waveguides.
Heterogeneous integration of III-V semiconductor materials on a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) platform has recently emerged as one of the most promising methods for the fabrication of active photonic devices in silicon photonics. For this integration, it is essential to have a reliable and robust bonding pr ocedure, which a lso pr ovides a u niform a nd u… (More)
Low-loss rib waveguides on Silicon-on-Insulator are used to demonstrate ultra high-Q and finesse all-pass microring resonators with record finesse of 1100 and Q of 613000. Key words— Microring resonators, Silicon-on-Insulator (SOI)
We report a very low-loss hybrid silicon waveguide circuit consisting of straight rib sections with a propagation loss of 0.272±0.012 dB/cm and compact photonic wire bends of 5μm radius with a loss of 0.0273±0.0004 dB/90 o bend.
The switching speed of conventional silicon-based optical switching devices based on plasma dispersion effect is limited by the lifetime of free carriers which introduce either phase or absorption changes. Here we report an all-optical logic NOR gate which does not rely on free carriers but instead uses two-photon absorption. High speed operation was… (More)
A 7.5 m-diameter InP microdisk laser, integrated on an SOI waveguide is demonstrated as all-optical flip-flop working in continuous-wave regime with an electrical power consumption of several mW, and allowing switching in 60ps with pulses of 1.8fJ. © 2009 Optical society of America OCIS-codes: (060.6719) Packet switching; (250.3750) Optical logic devices;… (More)
We demonstrate a very compact multifunctional photonic-crystal demultiplexer on high index contrast InP-membrane for coarse WDM applications. Polarization diversity is implemented using 2D-grating couplers. The performance of the device is evaluated using integrated p-i-n photodetectors. Polarization diversity from fiber to detector—without intermediate… (More)
We present a wavelength duplexer in silicon-on-insulator photonic wires. We made a polarization-diversity circuit using fiber grating couplers with polarization splitter and a bidirectional AWG, resulting in a polarization dependent loss of only 0.66dB. ©2006 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (130.0130) Integrated Optics; (130.1750) Components;… (More)
